dogwood delight

Happy Birthday to my Mother.

I would have loved to have made this cake for my Mom.

The truth is that my Mother has never cared much for sweets but I do think she would admire the magic of this artful dogwood cake. Is it not delightful? The dogwood blossoms look like porcelain.

While in Kentucky, I took great delight seeing the flowering dogwoods.

One of my favorite trees and blossoms.

Now I am back in New York and it feels like someone changed the channel, turned out the lights and opened up the skies, pouring buckets of rain.

Is it Spring where you live? Having had the pleasure of the explosion of color, the profusion of petals and the magic, I am ready to welcome Springtime here. How marvelous to have a wall of dogwood blossoms to admire during any season. The above image is a stencil found on etsy.

First Impressions

I had the great delight to visit the Speed Museum with my Mother to view a collection of Impressionist paintings. The collection was hung on serene deep blue walls. How lovely to visit and share our thoughts on art, life, and our impressions of great artworks. On tuesday, my dear Mother celebrates her 84th birthday. I feel so fortunate to be with her. Hope each of you are off to a good start today. Leave good first impressions wherever you go!

kentucky bibb lettuce

Truly, there are heavenly delights in Kentucky to savor and one of my personal favorites is a fresh salad made with Kentucky bibb, beets and arugula. Add a handful of toasted walnuts or pecans and hmm, hmm.

It is no secret that my love of dance and ballet all began in Louisville. While I am visiting my parents - I plan to support the Louisville Ballet for a "Rite of Spring" performance.

Leaving to visit my old Kentucky Home and spend some time with my "folks and family" - I will be back next week y'all. Pardon my light posts while I sip fresh brewed ice tea and sing one of my favorite songs. I will share some Kentucky love along the way.

new spring dots

I have the fondest memory of dots. Somehow Spring dots have a way of finding me. This "Patricia" dress is on it's way to me from here.

There is something about getting new spring duds and dots that make me so happy.

White shirts make me happy too, now all I need is Spring.

Sunday breakfast

After a busy week and breakfast on the run, I am taking a moment to enjoy some fresh fruit and yogurt with a splash of fresh squeezed lemon.

It tastes nice served up in my Tiffany venitian swirl glass.

I have 4 of these pretty glasses and I adore them.

Not to mention, there is something special about a real spoon versus a plastic one.

Taking time to enjoy the little thing's that make Sunday special.

purple flowers

I have been busy making fun purple flowers for my daughter's dance benefit at Purchase College that will be part of the table decor for the silent auction. Since we have April Showers and no May flowers blooming yet and a small budget for decor expenses - I have to work with what I've got!

My florist let me borrow these really cool wicker vases. Branches have been gathered and cut and flowers made. Inspired by "the art of doing stuff" and her brilliant tissue paper pom poms.....I added acetate....and store bought butterflies. I attached the purple flowers to the branches. Brown paper will be used along with purple acetate to cover the tables. I am making birds now with signs for the various categories. A silent auction will be on display for the guests to raise money for the Steffi Nossen School of dance.

Just look at these pretty dancers spending hours in the studio preparing for this event. It takes tremendous dedication for the dancer (and the parent) to be on time for classes and dress rehearsals!

The show is tonight. My daughter will be dancing with a cast on her broken left wrist from a snow-boarding fall. One might say "break a leg" - but I think I will just say dance with your heart!

April showers

Happy April Fool's day to each of you. It is true that April Showers bring May flowers and we are ready. No more foolin, we have had enough of snow, sleet and rain.

Bring on the flowers and the invites. Hope each of you have a glorious April!
