itsy bitsy

Long ago, I illustrated this wee shop. I have always been attracted to small shops. On Saturday, my youngest needed a flesh colored leotard for an upcoming dance performance.
I immediately remembered a small shop nearby. We went on our mission with a list in hand.
The sales clerk was itsy bitsy, full of smiles and so thrilled to help us procure 2 leotards and 2 pair of footless tights.

At the check-out, I made a remark of how much I loved small, wee shops and we each made a quip that in the large shops, the only people who seem to work there are the cashiers. Is it me, or do you have a wee thing for small shops too? I just love the service small shops offer.

What is your favorite eensy weensy shop?

locales

I have always been drawn to new locations or to new places that open in a new location. There is something fun about remembering what was there and then moving forward. The above illustration was done for J.McLaughlin, they have a new shop opening in Winston- Salem, North Carolina. I love that when I began illustrating these shops, there were a mere three in New York and now there are many shops in fun locations. Much rather see a location thriving than empty. How about you, any news from your exotic locale?

windowing

pve design illustration for "Edman" Boutique (2009)
How many of you out there find "windowing" fascinating. My family tells me, to not keep so many "windows" open at one time (on the computer) but I simply reply, I love fresh air and window shopping too. ( Sigh -Did I just sound like my own Mother?)

Last fall, I had the pleasure of creating this illustration for Whitney and now I take great joy in telling you that she has added a blog to her world. I love women who juggle life with a smile.

Hop on over here to this "Shopkeeper's Blog" and take a look in her window and read her story. Now excuse me while I do a bit of "windowing." Have a fabulous friday and make time for a little "windowing" from home. Any windows open that you care to share with the rest of us?

brand new oldie

This illustration was done for J.McLaughlin, exclusively for Dillard's and every time I look at it, there is something that makes me want to rush out and shop for something new. As a child, I loved riding my bike to a wonderful shop "Bycks" located in St.Matthews in Louisville. I would look at all the pretties. I would feel the fabrics, look at the way things were made and dream of being all grown up and having lots of money to shop for something new. Truth be told, I really love to scout at thrift shops, find bargains and bring home an oldie and make it look brand new.
Are your brave enough to give a gift of old or does it have to be brand spankin new?

draw one in

pve design illustration - shop sketch
I love to illustrate things and places with a perspective that will draw one in. This shop sketch makes me wish I was there now, on the avenue, walking and window shopping. What things lure you and draw you in?
