I'm sharing Sean's dream studio ~ lots of natural NORTHERN light, high ceiling with exposed beams, and un-interrupted wall space. For me, I would be happy with my very own 'nook with a dreamy vintage wooden desk and the perfect lamp (which is yet to be discovered by me!).Hope your dream studio comes to reality soon!
I like the idea of minimal clutter in a studio, but it always seems the busier I am with work (that's a good thing), the messier my studio/sewing room/office is.Susan
Built in cabinents (long and wide in size)helps eliminate clutter.Lots of natural light, comfy chairs for you and client(s). And a happy face which I know you will have! :)
I was wondering how the plans for your new studio were coming along... I would love lots of white cabinetry with long, long work spaces to spread out.Best,Colleen
Those pictures look like a dream! I'd love a studio where I can have a torch and the rest of the setup to metal smith; lots of natural light, and of course lots of storage for all my stones and pearls!
I'm looking forward to seeing your completed studio for some inspiration. I need to get mine in order. I would like it to be something pretty and comfortable with TONS of easily accessible storage. No clutter, which is hard to maintain with all the little bits and pieces I work with.
Definitely a sound system - I seem to be more creative when there's something playing in my ear!
The one thing I'm missing is a door. I find myself taking my laptop up to my bedroom a lot....so I can look at the window and feel tucked away.
First one is the best, however am sure you are gathering ideas from all sources!
I would need as many simple work tables as possible. I am one of those stackers-I need to see it. Once it gets put away-its out of my head. Good light. I just need more space, my work space has taken a spot in almost every room, which I really don't mind, It keeps me moving. pgt
I'd love walls of windows and a very large work table. White cabinets and splashes of color in fabric and art to liven it up.
I could so see you working in that first studio -so stylish -and that LIGHT! The 2nd one is very practical, very real world -but maybe not as stylish. The 3rd is pretty but a bit too 'perfect'; you need a little edge for your work!
When I was about eight I stepped into my great uncle's workshop for the first time. He was a master cabinet builder and shop was barn. It had clerestory windows that made great shadows on the ground. There were eight large maple work benches. The walls were covered with shelves and racks of tools. He put on his white canvas apron and began to make me a doll bed. I remember thinking this space felt more holy than church. I'd be happy in that barn: add books, my sewing maching, my computer and my stuff and I'd be happy there.
Love your inspirational photos for your dream studio! I could see myself paint there as well! I did my own dream studio post earlier this year. Feel free to check it out to see if you get even more inspired! http://www.studioeriksdotter.com/blog/2010/5/19/the-dream-art-studio.html
I can't wait to see what you come up with for your studio. They remind me of a piece of heaven. xo
Great upholstered chair in that last photo! I'd love an office of my own, including a desk with drawers to help me organize myself. It seems I'm always fighting back the papers.
I would love a couch where I could take naps : )
I have big dreams for a studio...it is fun to dream about it! Are you redoing your studio, I am sure it will be divine if you are! --Gretchen O.
Shelves and more shelves and a comfy chair make that 2 for for upright and one for lounging.Studio!! A go go!
I'll eventually post about it but in my office in my old house, I covered an entire wall with huge sheets of cork and pinned everything I loved on it. It was amazingly inspiring! I'd do that again for sure. It was sad to take it all down & I'm sure the next homeowners were cursing me. I'd also want a great big window to look out. Great music playing.Lots of shelves and pretty organizational things. And the perfect chair.
Oh, A dream studio, that would be dreamy!!! I read an article where an artist bought the house next door to him took out almost all of the walls raised the ceilings and put in large windows. Now that would be a dream!!! And it still had a functioning kitchen and guest bedroom, so their guests got their own house when they came to stay. Also it would be so terrific not to have to pick up and shove things in closets every time I have company, since my dining room is my studio. Hope you get your dream studio soon:)
I have several artist friends and I am so enchanted by their studios, I keep taking pictures and one day I will put them together. They are basic studios, but the assortment of brushes, the spills of colors everywhere, the rescued simple furniture, the array of objects...and the light!I wish I had a studio myself.
Loving these - thank you
I love your blog so much pve! Makes me happy. We are actually transforming our shed into a studio/office. The most important part for me is that we will be able to see the sunset from French doors.
I think a fabulous large Northern window would dominate the room. I'd have plenty of open shelves, objects for study, books, books, books. A comfy sofa, a long dining table, architects desk, fireplace. I can dream can't I? Best, Liz
First one is fab with the chair and the windows. Put that on your list of ideas...
Definitely a "nook space" with crisp green walls. I accidentally followed your blog twice. Sorry!
Dream studio indeed! I love the ecletic where you mix and match inspiration with the tools of the trade.
I need a different studio to fit all my different moods! I love the serene, super organize space of the last picture. But I usually find myself happier with lots of inspiration (aka. clutter) around me. Hmmmmm.
Light, always lots of light!!!
My dream space would include lots of table space. I'm a table organizer and like things out in plain sight. Well, ideally speaking of course. In real life, things are stacked and unfortunately not seen often. Trina
I can never get enough of looking at artists studios...they fascinate me. Loved the first one...character and light are what's needed for me...and all that inspires surrounding me.xo J~
oh how I would LOVE a place of my own to create...wishing the same for you~xx
Love your inspirational images! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Also, were you at the Nate Show on 9/21 in the PM? And if so, how did I miss you? Or am I just a space cadet?xoxo, cristin
