friday frame of mind

Desk of Charlotte Moss
I usually send all the artwork I do finished with a mat, ready to frame - however I had to send one without and the client posed this question;

"What sort of frame and mat would you choose?"

Well, let me answer firstly by saying that this is very personal and it depends of course on your decor. I am a lover of the rich thick archival museam mat in a sort of slight tinted gray or a hint of the palest color and then the frame is like an accessory. There are plain and fancy frames, wooden, black, gold, antiqued and it all depends on your own style. I do love a collection of individual frames or a wall of frames that were framed to match.

Tell me, what sort of frame of mind or frame in your mind is your favorite on this friday?

charlotte moss's desk? I think? it's lovely! I love thin little gold or silver frames -with a little bit of 'carving' to them -bamboo or something sweet like floral. Depends on the art and the space though!

Lovely post. I like frames to be similar. So all black or all light/silver or all wood tones. I think the art tends to pop more when the frame is not the focus.

Stefan-
yes, I saved this photo of Charlotte Moss's desk, I shall credit it - I am so bad at that :(.
I love my framer, there are so many options but he always seems to select the perfect frame.

Preppy Pink Crocodile-
true, I have a wall of family photos and the mat and frame are one family - just a variety of sizes and shapes.

I let the art choose the frame and mat. I never know what's right until I see it.

For photos of family and friends, I use mostly silver frames, but I do have some in gold wood frames.

Charlotte Moss's Desk...so gorgeous. I love the collected look of frames, but I do love a wall with all of the frames the same as well...depends on what kind of mood I am in. --Gretchen O.

PVE,

I'm in a completion frame of mind. It's about a landscape project about 4 weeks to completion. Studio redesign project next month, Summer ending and Holiday's on the horizon. It's all good though. I'm an iPhone 4 list maker and photo idea generator so I'm always managing projects while out (as I think about it) and at home as I review project stages.

For me the frame depends on the work. Sometimes I use silver frames with a gold underlay, so I can mix them with silver or gold frames. When I have tried to arrange frames like the venerable CM, I stack all the pictures in the room, and lay them on the floor. and move them around. I've never had such a wonderful collage,as CM's. Off to our beloved festival of books and authors tomorrow-40 authors, 7500 readers!! I'll be wallowing instead of blog reading and commenting tomorrow. Congratulate me!
Best,

Totally depends on the artwork and the setting for the frame choice. I am loving Charlotte Moss's workspace. The picture collage on the wall was perfectly executed. A good mix.

Simple and elegant are the way I try to frame. My Mom owns a frame shop and art gallery. She does a fantastic job. Absolutely has to be archival quality and mats should enhance the art not detract from it. Love the photo:)

what a lovely image! lately I am finding myself drawn to those ornate, swirly-edged frames (that used to seem so old fashioned and heavy to me.) But now i'm liking them, who knows!
