three scoops

image of my "3 scoops"
Just the other day, I had sort of what I like to call a Super Mom melt down.  I had glommed on way too much, things were back to back and I felt squeezed and squashed by the end of the day.
I even sent a "rant" to sweet Seleta, a blogger and Mom of four "offspring."  She was kind to reply and let me know that she has days like these too.  (Hence the reason or reward for shoe purchases and Hair care.)

After a storm, one always has the ability to see things more clearly.  Just yesterday, I came across these photos that take me back to a kinder and gentler time.  A time of anticipation for my roses to bloom, right outside my door, a time preparing for our local Spring concerts at our school and a time of rewarding my 3 scoops with an ice cream after a job well done.  I always tell people, I have 3 scoops.  One "Chocolate, one vanilla and one strawberry."  When you see their hair-color, you get my point.

In my melt-down, I failed to see all the goodness, and all the rewards of my labors.  How lucky am I to have 3 healthy scoops.  That said, after a visit to the pediatrician that we have been seeing for nearly 12 years, (my sons now tower over him), I was reminded of how important it is to allow time for "reward", for  "praise" and for 3 scoops of ice cream.  So when the going gets tough and you need to take a break, I suggest "Ice Cream."  Exactly where we were headed when these photos were taken years ago.  This reminds me to take time for life's sweetness. After all, one is never to old for Ice Cream, especially on a hot day.  We went to a diner and had 3 scoops.  We all left happy and smiling, a sweet reward.

oh my goodness pve! You made it through the tough parts... i'm still stumbling through logistics with my twins +1. Thanks for letting me see the light at the end of the tunnel!

heidi,
just take it one day at a time and look to the light!
remember little people, little problems, big people -big problems. enjoy every second. it goes just that fast.

ice cream cures all problems except the middle bulge

marnie-
lol - the "middle bulge" yes, I know, hence shoes or hair being a nice reward for us Mom's. Somehow that just does not seem to do the trick for kids...yet.

Oh they're so cute!! And your roses are amazing; You're quite the gardener!

Court,
Thank-you --- They are growing and every phase brings new rewards.
Patricia

Stefan,
Luckily, the roses really do not require much, other than pruning and feeding and they are tethered along a wire in a sunny spot. I only wish that they lasted longer. They are a shade of home-made peach ice-cream!
Lucky for me - the children bloom all year! :)

Love this post! As you know, Seleta is my sister. While I don't have children (only Winston), I can attest to your philosophy- it's quite necessary to look for the light... :)

So adorable! Three scoops is such a clever way to put it. My Mom would say one of each-blond brunette and redhead when we were growing up. Your way is cuter. Strawberry-out.

omg! your scoops are soooo adorable. I'd love to see them today to compare - they certainly all look so different! The red head looks so impish and darling and blondie, looks all little girl roughhousing with her older brothers. The black hair - tall, dark and handsome!

You are sooooo lucky! Three gorgeous children

Sage advice for those days when "we all scream" too much. Off to pick up my set.

Three scoops -- what a nice thing to call them.

I always say things are great in three's. What precious gourmet "scoops" you have. And how blessed they are to have a mother who cherishes them in such a dear way.

I really love your perspective on things. It's so enlightening. Thanks for the inspiration. And I'm flattered to have received your email the other day!

Lord knows I've had my fair share of melt downs. We aren't perfect...just trying to do the best we can, right? I hate it when I pile too much on my plate. I say bravo to you for realizing that your melt down called for time together to set things right.

You've got a beautiful family....and, they've got a beautiful mommie!

Oh, we all have these days. Sometimes I feel like I have these days more than not. I love the idea of "scoops" that is too cute and quite smart!

Great to see you tonight, Patricia. 'Bout time!

I love this post for so many reasons. It's very personal. Thank you for sharing. The photos are beautiful, and so are the Scoops. And the cleverness of the "chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry."

Just look at the smiles on those faces. You have done a good job.

the sweetest scoops around...so lucky you are to have them and how lucky they are to have you. I only have one tiny scoop, but sometimes I need to take a moment to appriciate him and let the little things slide. We are some lucky mommas!

What sweet scoops!
Love to look at old photos of children... hard to believe how fast they grow!
My double scoops can be "Rocky Road" at times... but for the most of part they make my life delicious... even while I'm pulling my hair out!

Three scoops indeed. I have a copyediting and a writing deadline on the same day this month and am wondering how, how, how I'm going to make them. So today I'm going to take my three to the beach one last time before leaving the Cape and, yes, we'll have ice cream too.

They are ADORABLE! And they look so happy, too.
