of such a kind

pve design - home illustration - commission
Isn't she a beauty? Yes, indeed she has that grand commanding air about her. Standing there, built to witness a full life. There is indeed something about her grace which speaks volumes to me. A "built" to stand the test of time demeanor. Stately, yet beguiling. Elegant yet humble. Royal yet homey. Then that deep Blue- Green trim and front door and the pediment around the entry and lush plantings. I am drawn to one of such a kind soul.

Imagine bringing home babies, pets, groceries and more to this kind of home. This southern client has lived here for many years so when it came time for a commission, she was patient and charming. I imagined her living up to the quality of this home. Which brings me to the next question, are you the kind of person who matches your home, one who lives up to the character and soul of the home. I often think people fit the home in which they live. The home becomes a reflection of them. What kind of home do you exude?

The years of tending, nurturing, giving, loving, maintaining a home of such a kind takes a quality person, one with integrity and reverence. Do you reflect your habitat and does your habitat reflect you? What does you home say about the quality of your life?

Right now the hubs and I are trying to get our home to live up to the souls in US!

I hope I exude the air of an old home (since I have always lived in one), one with a time-worn easy comfort. I love a house that sits upon it's land with certitude and elegance; one that whispers "I have always been here."

Once again, a beatiful illustration.

I think I would feel the same walking out of an Estate Home and perhaps Government housing...I am who I am...no matter where I live.
I always tell my husband, we don't need all this...we can move into a 2 bedroom apartment, and I would still be happy.
GREAT-BEAUTIFUL painting...and wonderful thought provoking post as always!

Fascinating question, PVE. Yes, I certainly think that one's home is a reflection of the owner's personality. I think if I were to walk through someone's home, without knowing them, quite a clear picture could be painted of the occupant. Such fun to think about. Of course, the illustration is beautiful! Hope you are having a wonderful week!

It looks like a Southern home. Very beautiful painting. I am certain the homeowners were thrilled.

I've been told that our home feels like love inside. That is all I could ever wish for.

This stunning home is a beaut! Such lucky clients. I think we reflect our home. It's simple, cozy, easy and friends say it is warm. Our last was a 13 room cape-and always in need of lots of TLC-she was somewhat demanding of us. This one is just right.

Carey,
A home does require constant soul searching and teaches us along the way.
As always, thanks so much for your souful comments.

Style C-
Love to see and hear the whisper of your home - have you ever posted it?

Char-
You are so right- I think wherever I have lived, there have been constants and it does not require that of a chateau, a simple room can reflect love, warmth and a life worth sharing. I remember living in my first apartment and my Mother telling me that where-ever I live, there will always be love.

Lecia,
Your habitat certainly reflects your style as well as the inhabitants. I always admire your simple lines
in your easy photos....well they look easy!

Deborah,
Those demanding and bossy types can be a little too much, glad this one is more humble and a good landlord.

We have a stencil on one of our living walls that reads "sit long, talk much, laugh often". I think that reflects our style. Whenever anyone comes to our door, my first words are always "welcome"

What a beautiful, beautiful home. I think our homes, more than anything else, become reflections of their owners.

Interesting question. Our home was to be temporary as my husband wasn't sure he would like his new job, and we didn't want our young son to have to three elementary schools under his belt before junior high. The son is 33 and has long moved away, and the husband is five years from retirement from said new job. So much for planning! Our home says less than the landscaping. And the landscaping (with stone terraces and stairs) probably says: serious, stoned-out, whack job lives here! By the way, loved style chronicle's response. Our's may not say "certitude and elegance", but it does say: I will survive 90 mile an hour winds!

Good question. You've given me a lot to think about today. Beautiful home.

Home before dark,
I for one would love to see those whacked out stone walls. Have you given thought to a blog, you always inspire with your words or "certitude and elegance"
Thanks to style chronicle for her words and brilliant assessment of such a kind.

Kwana,
Not to worry, I truly think I could make my home in a stable ---time to go make the hay.

Yesterday my home was improved with the new refrigerator coming through the front door and the old one being wheled out the same door. Thank God for two big boys who installed it!

Some days, I think my home perfectly reflects who we are - but other days, it reminds me it is always a work in progress - AS ARE WE!! It is never finished. Always open for bursts of new color, paint, improvements. Prone to little break-downs that require a bit of TLC (handiman) - but usually feels quite comfortable in it's own skin - aging, but wise!!

Yes, I am my house. My house is me!

Love the post. Love the illustration.
You seem to be on fire lately - so many beautiful works - a new one every day!!

Beautiful. Our home definitely reflects us, a good old southern home where we drink sweet tea and blow bubbles on the screen porch. The two front rooms are more "formal" and as you walk deeper into the hall the "real" us is revealed, relaxed, a little messy, comfortable.

Patricia, I am sorry I missed your post on our home. I have been so busy with my business that I have neglected following my Blog list! Thank you not only for the beautiful painting of our home but also for the lovely description! We have raised three children here, umpteen animals, and now two precious grandchildren are close by enough to feel totally at home here. It took on new life when we renovated the basement into the workroom and office for Sophie Dahy Designs. Instead of the old, creepy place that it originally was, it is filled with gorgeous, colorful flowers. Thanks again for your post.

Sophie-
It was an honor to illustrate your home, akin to an artfully arrange centerpiece!
Enjoy every blossom and every minute in your home.
