"F1" - Formula One Car designed by JP van Essche (son of pve)
Last Summer, my sons attended a summer program, "Great Books" on the grounds of Amherst College and had the opportunity to see what campus life is like. The 2 week program was wonderful for them to meet college graduates, to attend a variety of lectures and to have free time to play music, create or toss a frisbee.
The above car was designed and made by my son from cardboard, and a mix of garbage, caps, wire and then painted. Ever since he was a little boy, he has taken great pleasure in building with legos, putting puzzles together and a whiz at engineering. He can figure out most anything, take it apart and put it all back together. I love how we are programmed with a formula at such a young age and that love or passion if nurtured can grow.

Do you have one formula that has stayed with you from childhood or a creative passion that has evolved over time? A little "formula fun" at any age is truly special.

I can see how the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I can see JP has a flare for art and design. The car is pretty neat. xo

That race car is fantastic! It seems the apple does not fall far from the tree. Trying to figure out my own formula, in order to "get back to it".

What a great experience for the boys!! I think really what I mentioned in my latest post....keep on going even if you don't feel like you are making headway, or you are frustrated, and stay true to your vision,

Often, just getting out of the starting gate can be toughest part of the journey. I'm all for spare-time activities that challenge and expand the mind. What a fabulous experiance for your boys.

A great experience for both your sons' curiosity about college life.
The car is creative and shows his ability to master starting from scratch and building upward. Kudos to him and his parents!!

What a great opportunity! Reminds me of the Pinewood Derby that my brother participated in as a Scout, yet on a much more academic scale. ;)

Wonderful creation! It will be fun to see what he turns out to do later on.

Me? Writing and houses and dogs. Always.

What a fabulous program. I looks to me like he got the best of both worlds - math, engineering + being creative. A rare combination. Usually students are either left brain or right brain!

My formula - I'll have to think about that one, Miss pve!! Maybe my love of organization and all things that help with that. I also love "school supplies" - hehe. xoxo

How nice for your guys! It's interesting how these experiences come full circle...in HS my son has to design a figure to hold a bowling ball...he used all triangles (it worked!!) and found himself expanding on this idea for a project at FIT...I think this car designing will come up in their future--we'll wait and see!

Children live what they learn, Ms. PVE. Creativity and ingenuity!
It's sophisticated and fuel efficient. Congrats.

That car rocks!! I was always artsy crafty and now I feel like I can take a pile of scraps and a glue gun and always make some kind of magic happen. :-)
