tickling the ivories

pve design - client living room commission
I learned to play piano in third grade from Mrs.Hufnagel. I would cut through a neighbors yard which would lead me to her house for my weekly lesson. When I was reminded to practice, my mother would gently tell me to go and "tickle the ivories." Somehow it made it more fun knowing that there was tickling involved. I am tickled to sponsor this gal over here today. Do you have any hobbies that tickle your fancy?

I always wished that I had learned to play the piano - something about it has always appealed more to me than any other instrument.

I second Emily's passion. I am hoping when the economy improves, we will be able to go out shopping for my very own piano. I believe in my heart this will happen! :)

Very often 2nd hand piano's are waiting for a home to land in as well as to be tickled! Check with your local music shop or the classifieds and a good tuner to tune it up! I have a friend who got one for a song!

Knitting does that but there hasn't been time for me to do it as often as I like. Only the group. One day I'd love to learn piano. One day.

I bet you play beautifully my friend. I love music! I appreciate music more so maybe because I can't carry a tune. smile...

I love to hear the beautiful music of someone playing the piano. I am not able to carry a tune much less play an instrument, so I paint, paint, paint!

Yesterday I sat at a baby grand & thought about how it finishes a room. We left ours behind during our last move. We haven't any space for one now, but perhaps someday we'll have one again & I'll take more time to make sure it isn't just an under-used piece of stylish furniture.

my dad started to teach me piano when I was 4 yrs old -when i stuck with it -in 1st grade I was allowed to finally take lesssons! I had a few piano teachers over the years and all of that practice was awful (at the time!). Of course now, i miss having a piano DAILY.

I wish I had learned how to play the piano as a child. We have one and Abbott is taking lessons. Someday soon, I plan to sign myself up for lessons too.

Oh, this whole room tickles me! Love it.

My lessons were given by Mrs. Sammons. I think she was a bit less fun than yours, as she was totally devoted to the metronome. Sigh.

Love that room illustration. Very Noel Coward.

I practice way too seldom these days, but tickle the keys every day a little bit for some relaxing....
I love it!
Wonderful drawing.
Great to sponsor LGN! Nice match for you two!

This drawing of yours was the total inspiration for my Great Room, way back when?!! If you walked into my Great Room today you would say, "hey, I'm in my drawing"! My boys have the most wonderful piano teacher. She is so groovy she wears treble clef earrings! My piano teacher?? I'm still psychologically damaged. Hence the reason I play the violin. A-M xx

First of all, how great of a name is Mrs. Hufnagel? She just sounds like a piano teacher. I tried to learn as a kid...but "try" is a bit of a misnomer; I had no patience (ah...some things never change...) and still kick myself for not trying harder. My new hobby of sewing is tickling my fancy...and filling my house with fabric! :-)

I just discovered you through LGN. On the topic of a piano - I've always had a piano as I was a music major, until three years ago. I NEVER thought I'd say this -- but I miss it!

But I digress -- beautiful work.

I've added you to my google feedreader.

Are you also on twitter?
