park avenue

pve design illustration for A.Tierney
Having lived in the city with wee ones, a favorite memory was a stroll to Central Park, crossing Park Avenue in Full Bloom.  The flowers and greenery planted in the median immediately brings color and elegance to the expansive Boulevard running North and South.  Growing up in Kentucky, neighborhoods with medians and lush plantings and flowering trees always attracted me and I imagined neighbors scheming up plantings and play dates.

How about you, do you have a favorite median where you live?

Gorgeous artwork! I think everywhere, this has been the nicest spring. Must be because it was such a long winter.

The Boston Common~ during the holidays at night. Really spectacular! Thousands of white twinkly lights and people hustling into the little shops. I love this drawing of Mommy and babes out for a stroll.

Your work is lovely! There is a small town in Michigan that I remember going through on our way to our lake house. It was always over flowing with flowers and greens.

I think my fave place in Central PArk is Belvedere castle...love to climb up to the top and see the bird's eye view of the park from within!

Tara,
Now you have peaked my curiosity!
Where is Belvedere castle, have I been under a rock?

In my neighboring town, there is a median called "Bottle Hill" which is enchanting. There is a very tall clock, in which I've heard little kids call it Big Ben. There is also an enclosed area for two benches (yes, people can sit there while eating their ice cream cones). And all the street lights have the American flag hanging. It has history attached to it from the American Revolutionary War. The old buildings are kept in good condition, and house quaint shops. The cars on either side of the median drive very slowly through this area as there are many pedestrians. I often smile when I walk this area - it's charming.

I visited Central Park a few years ago and wanted to move ASAP. It defines perfection to me. I loved it....

when I briefly lived on the upper west side, I was always amazed at how many people hung-out on the benches on the median in the middle of b'way.

Heidi-
many trips to Fairway on the West side and seeing so many ladies like Mina shopping. I always loved how they made a daily trek to the market crossing that median on b'way and a bench handy to wait for the light to change.

I love your artwork!

We have Sheridan Blvd here in Lincoln with beautiful homes on either side of the street. The median is mostly trees and grass with not much blooming going on, but beautiful just the same. I drive home that way at the end of the day. It is a peaceful drive with families and dogs and little red wagons and tricycles all along the way. For the winter holidays, the residents light luminaries in white paper bags and they line the median for about a mile.

Oh my goodness the colors and drawing on this one is so beautiful!

Our median is the forest preserves with rolls of trees to either walk by or sit and have a picnic (we ate a light dinner in the park on Sunday). Another special place is the square in Woodstock.

Enjoy! xoxox

Just delightful Patricia, you've really captured the relaxed style of this boulevard perfectly! Living in this tiny little village in the Hills above Adelaide, I don't have anything as flash, but I love the peaceful lanes & byways that ramble around our property. Leading nowhere & yet, in a lovely way, everywhere.

Delightful picture! I've always wanted to go to Central Park. The streets where a median has been planned always look so great!

I love that area of the city. It's where you see all kinds of people and their dogs, kids, heading for the park. Last time i was there, I saw a bulldog and lab dyed in tiger and leopard stripes. So funny.

I also love the style of this illustration:)

Love the artwork!

My favorite is Commonwealth Ave in Boston- from Kenmore Square all the way up to the Boston Common- so beautiful at any time of year.

I truly love that painting, very cheerful. We have a beautiful median in front of our home. Not many of the residential streets do & I feel lucky to have beautiful trees to shade our walks & provide us with such beauty.

I dream of NY. Made my first trip to NY a while back and fell in love with city. I grew up in SF, so the city life and concrete and flowers and the light of the city are all a comfort. I now live just outside Sydney, Australia! Any art of the homeland makes me cry. Thanks for such lovely illustrations to remind me of home. I will be following your blog with glee.

Just out back is Monument Avenue, a fantastic boulevard and one that we walk/run and sometimes at which we just stop and stare.

Real public spaces of beauty are such a joy for so many.
