Block Party

Last weekend we were invited to attend an annual block party of a nearby street.  It's one thing our street would never really be able to emulate as we live on a steep hill.  One of my favorite things about the party is to see how everyone gathers to close the door to summer and welcome the Autumn season.
There's always an array of food, drink, games, bouncy castles, karaoke and even a"chocolate fountain" which provide entertainment for many hours.

I really love knowing that every year there will be new neighbors, new faces, newborns as well as some of the older generation who look forward to rocking around a nearby block.  I call it the "chip off the ole block" party.

That sounds like it will be a lot of fun! It's always great to have different generations mingling in such a fun, relaxed atmosphere :)

What a great tradition. After everyone has been a bit more fancy free in the summer, it's nice to come together for the more structured seasons.

Great time of year for sure we have our block party every other year in August. It gives everyone a chance to catch up...nice!

Patricia,
Every time I see one of your illustrations, I think it's my new favorite. THIS is one of those!! So happy, so cheerful...so Americana.

Our neighborhood has an annual picnic in September and we then have a Halloween parade where all the children start at the top of the hill in their costumes and end at an open field where the party awaits them. It is indeed an annual highlight!

Hope you and your daughter enjoy this beautiful day off!
xoxo Elizabeth

My brother and his family live on a block that does a block party every year. They really enjoy their neighborhood and the kids all get along so well. It's neat to see a community come together like that and have fun.
