good sports

How fun to have a family memory of attending one of the Olympic events, all dressed in red, white and blue. This illustration was done as part of a series of memories. Good sports deserve to have good memories. Do you have any special sports memories? Have you ever attended an Olympic event or a major World series?

I attended the Sydney Olympics 2000. My boss at the time was exceptionally generous and gave me two tickets to a full day of athletics. It was a fantastic day, one I will never forget.

The morning session highlights included seeing the queen of hurdles Gail Deevers and Hicham El Garrouj (sp?) in the mens 1500 qualifying.

For us proud Aussies, it was the night Cathy Freeman won the Womens 400m. You could have heard a pin drop in the stadium before the race started and the collective sigh of relief when the race ended - the tension was unbelievable. I also got to see the magnificent Michael Johnson win the Mens 400m. The womens pole vault made its debut at the Sydney Olympics with the USA's Stacy Dragilla winning the gold. The awe inspiring duel between Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie and Kenya's Paul Tergat was a real highlight. An absolute nail biter with 0.09 seconds the difference between gold and silver over 10,000 metres! The determination and never give up attitude of the Gebrselassie is such a great moment to relieve on those occasions when I feel overwhelmed.

An unforgettable experience that a generous boss enabled me to have and that I luckily also got share with my sports mad father. A once in a lifetime experience for me.

What a treat it would be to attend the Olympics. Just seeing the illustration and reading the note from Sandy K makes me want to go. The summer Olympics would be my preference...love the swimming and track & field events.

I attended the Olympics when they were here in Atlanta in 1996. I had the privilege of being at the track when Carl Lewis and Michael Lewis both won gold - it was thrilling!

Oops - meant to say Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson.

I was also lucky enough to attend several events at the Sydney Olympics also for free as a friend of mine worked for the organising committee. It was always a case of at the last minute, though. Crowning moment was attending the final of the men's Gymnastics rotation front row, and also being in one of the sponser tents with the VIP's that were attending!

Nothing so grand for me. I love going to the US Open and the Yankee games. I think now my best sports memories are watching my son play little league.

What a lovely memory you have created, Patricia. We actually did attend the 1986 Atlanta Olympics and we were married while we were there! It was wonderful, but the heat in Atlanta was something something else.
Best,
Colleen

I've never been to a big sporting event. Sounds like a great opportunity. My son is home and all caught up in the World Cup. It's been fun to watch that with him.

I so want to go the London Olympics. Our boys should be the perfect age to enjoy and appreciate it. I have great memories of watching the Olympics each year it is on. And, I love how they space it out ---- anticipation!!

Attended the Olympics when they were in Atlanta and have also attended the World Series. It was more my husband's cup of tea, but I liked being able to say I was there!

I haven't unfortunately. Love the title. The only sports in my life are the Green Bay Packer games...Mike is a native Wisconsin so naturally, I married into the team spirit!
