Pardon me, while I am in the midst of a kitchen quandary for my "new" kitchen. My kitchen ideas run from light to dark. We will have an island with a sink. The other side of the room will have an area to "lounge." There will be a copper bar sink, and I am planning a copper counter.
I love the light counters with a bit of sheen. The island will be used as a breakfast bar of sorts since we all seem to be on different shifts. I will also use it as a spot to serve from.
Although I do love the look, no to wood floors. I want something easy to wash, porcelain tile in a modern neutral. I have seen some awesome tile with subtle textures.
Love a bit of lucite, white and some soft color. I cannot wait til the fun begins. Even though I know there shall be dust and lots of take-out during the construction, I am excited to be in thephase of what I call "kitchen stew." I know that taking care in each decision will alleviate any sort of "stew in one's juice" sort of quandary. What would you add to my kitchen stew?

I keep folders of ideas...just in case I find myself in the stew and need solid ideas for such things. For instance~ should we ever make our upstairs into a suite-I have everything all sorted out. Pick up lots of inspiration books and use google images- it will either help or add more confusion to the stew.

I love the look of the 2nd picture. It's so comfortable with the seating. Though I think the dark wood of the 3rd is calling you. I say take a breath and let your design eye come up with a combo. I know you can.
ReplyDeleteA kitchen does strike at the heart of the matter. It means so much and we want to get it right. Which, I am sure, you will. Look forward to seeing the kitchen of PVE come alive. One of my recurring kitchen fantasies is a center drain so I could hose everything down with ease. It still makes me smile. Have fun and enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI've seen tiles that mimic wood flooring. Very nice looking and neutral. Nice marriage of the two. We have bamboo and it cleans up very nicely in my kitchen, but the color is very light and shows flaws easily, esp. with a puppy in the house. Have fun making the decisions - it will look fantastic when it's done. You've got a wonderful aesthetic.

ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that someone with your eye for detail will create a beautiful and cohesive space. I think a beautiful backsplash can do wonders for a kitchen - something unique, bright and airy is always my first choice. And I couldn't help but notice that a unique backsplash is a common thread in the images you've saved! Here's to hoping you'll let us have more sneak peeks as your design develops! Marija
ReplyDeleteI used large-ish squares of dark blue-gray slate w/ similarly shaded grout on my floors and LOVE it. Looks 'natural' and hides 'stuff' (labrador hair, oreo crumbs) like nobody's business. Plus it looks really good with carrera marble, 'tho not sure with copper... until it turns verdigris... and then it would look really good.
ReplyDeleteall that white! then maybe a hint of turquoise & coral.... you mentioned a few days ago that you want to make a white quilt, too! really? hmmmm.... what color is your dog? how do you keep it all clean? very interesting! it looks beautiful, but the practical side of me says no way!

ReplyDeleteKitchen reno's are painful...even when they run smoothly. There really is no greater disruption. My advice...rent lots of comedy to view while eating take-out!
