dog Ma

artwork of Maira Kalman (an inspiring artist to many!)
There is not a day that goes by, when either myself or a family member quips -I am coming back "as a dog Ma!" All our dog has to worry about are his next meal and walk! Fortunately, our dog does live a nice lifestyle, but I know some dogs are not as lucky to be idolized!

Tell me your opinion, would you like to come back as a dog? What sort of "dogma" or dog would you be and who would your faithful owner be? What do you think your day would be like?

* Winner of $25 gift card to Branch goes to Maureen at The Inglenook decor! Congratulations.
Maureen is hosting March giveaways, so please be sure to pop over for March madness!

I would by all means come back as a dog! My girls live such a great life-spoiled and well-loved! I heard a tale just yesterday of a puppy being left outside, tied-up, all alone for a whole weekend. And it was COLD that weekend. My friend, the neighbor-called the police. The puppy is still with her owners... and left outside all day. I want this puppy! There are no bad dogs- just bad owners! Hope you are recovering from gala birthday celebrations!

Debra,
I would be your dog any day!
I can imagine the healthy treats and love you give must be immeasurable.
The b-day was indeed a gala fit for a Queen!
The "curtsies and grand bows" just kept coming all day long. The Tiara got a good workout.

A post after my heart. Our old UPS gent use to say when we had Buddy and Kelly, he wanted to come back as a dog and live in our home.

We would go on walks every day, and to the dog park to do another walk. Gary would do the grooming and I would do nuturing. Meaning if they were in a little trouble they would come run and hide by me. Smile... Every night a would be a mint on the pillow (a tiny treat), as I like to call it. Go everywhere we could possibly bring them, for rides ect... you name it they were part of us and had US trained so well. I think this is why we are still having a stuff time with Miss Kelly even as the sun is coming out more and spring is near. She loved this time of year. So to answer your question, I would hope to get an loving family as our home. Lay in the sun, get the best treats, and all the special attention between my naps. Hugs... xo

My dogs have a pretty good thing going on, so I'd have to say I'd come back as one of them.

Joyce,
oh, yes, I can only imagine what a dog's life would be like at your perfect spot. I know this is a tender area for you, so I thank-you for your post.
Now, excuse me while I roll over for some more belly scratching! Wag Wag!

Gosh, I don't know - I'm quite a talker - not sure I could do it. Though I love a good nap in the sun as well.

Interesting question. I have to say that it totally would depend upon whose dog I might be. My husband and I are involved in dog rescue here in Dallas and surrounding areas and I promise you that 99% of the dogs we rescue have NOT lived enviable lives. We put our blood, sweat, tears and lots of money into changing that when we can. But if I have a choice, then I want to come back as one of Joni Webb's dogs or Charlotte Moss's. Those are two families that I know of where the dogs have it GOOD!!!

Mrs.Blandings,
Just think "you" would have your very own language.
I know my dog has his own language and I understand him perfectly, every word.

Vickie H,
Ha, love it, yes, Joni does treat her dogs well and that Charlotte too. It is sad to think that there are so many mistreated animals.

Kwana,
Jack knows he has got a good thing!
Besides he is a good assistant, right?

I would like to come back as a dog, BUT as a dog with a loving family. You are right, there are so many animals out there who are not lucky and dont have loving homes. It breaks my heart just to think about it.

I'd be a golden retriever! I've always wanted a golden retriever of my own because they are so loyal and loving. We travel often from state to state to go and visit our daughter and family, and because of traveling haven't filled my desire with owning my own dog yet. I don't want to leave a sweet dog friend for days at a time. It would depress me! One day I will fill that void.

We often say we would come back as our dogs! (And my feeling is that humans should be treated the way they treat their animals - we have rescued many dogs, and have the utmost respect for all those who work with the "people" from whom they directly receive abused pets. I would have to have my lawyer on standby for the bodily harm I might inflict.)

pve, hope you don't mind me posting this here, but I just had a thought for Vickie H. - I couldn't find your blog, but wanted to let you know that we have a donation program for animal charities. If you want to chat further please contact me at susan@themuddydog.com. Thanks for all your good work!

LeeAnn-
A golden, oh they are sweet. I do hope you fill your wish. Our dog certainly is a part of our family and we cannot imagine a day without his love.

Muddy Dog-
I can only imagine how so many would love to snuggle on one of your wonderful dog beds.
Hope you are enjoying this day!

Oh yes please. I would come back as my beagle, Oscar. He is the sweetest, but he has the sweetest life. I would start my mornings stretching and then run to breakfast. I would spend my days rolling in the grass in the back yard and running/playing in the park. I would wind down my day by soaking up the sun on the deck and then getting treats from the dinner table. Nobody can resist sad, begging beagle eyes! The evenings would be spent getting belly rubs while snuggling on the couch and then retiring for the evening at the foot of a comfy bed. Ah, simple life. We could all learn something from slowing down :)

Wait a second, I would come back as our Lab mix Oscar! Having a devoted family, a soft cushy ottoman to sleep, summer camp every year, yummy food...never cooking and fun at the park! Why not?
Come to think of it, my life as is comes already quite close to my dog's live...OK, the cooking part is missing...
Maybe the dog years would bother me!

Woof!

I would absolutely come back as my dog! She totally lives *the* life!!! The funniest thing is when she barks at us to let us know that she is ready to get in the (master) bed ... yes, before we are ready to go to sleep. And we put her up there ... turn out the lights ... and let her get her beauty rest! :-) She also has her sleep routine, which involves falling asleep on top of my head. I get about 1/4 of the pillow, and she gets the rest. Love my Coco girl!

I wish each of you "dogs" were by my side, I would give you a treat, take you out for a good game of "ball" and tire you out! Each of your comments were so dog gone funny.
I would come back as any of your dogs, so loved, so well treated, like a royal member of the family.
