party people

pve design - "cocktails" illustration
Apologies for the not so great photo of my "party people" illustration.  This happened to be from a wedding that I was booked to illustrate for and it all made my heart beat a bit faster. The party season is approaching like a freight train and I think for fun gifts, I will bring along my sketch pad and draw, new meaning to "working the crowd" - right!   Sounds like a good plan to avoid gaining any holiday excess or to avoid being tempted!  What are your favorite memories of parties that you have given or attended?

I went to a New Year's Eve party during the first week of my first real job out of college. I was so tired, that I fell asleep on the couch before midnight. I awoke long after sunrise, to see that 8 remaining party guests had been chatting & drinking with their chairs gathered around me... For what may have been hours!

How exciting. I've been going through all these wedding photographer blogs lately and it has me wanting to re-do my wedding all over again. If I could I would book you in a heartbeat. What a fun way to capture your big day!

There is point at every one of our parties when we look at the assembled throngs, listen to the laughter and clink of glasses, rustle of silks and chiming of jewelry and think "Perfect. Now go home."

Our marriage was a wonderful party -- New Year's Eve with a great jazz combo in a classic hotel.

But I think I'm still trying to recreate my parents' and Mrs. E.'s grandparents' parties. They were the stuff of legend.

Fantastic idea for a Christmas gift on your part! Truly special.

What a marvelous idea! I want you at one of my parties. Truth be told I am not much a of party person - always awkward and not great at socializing. But I love the idea of a fabulous holiday party!

What a great idea and beautiful sketch! I have many great memories, I love to entertain! My favorite part is when a guest comes in and sees the decorations or the buffet and are delighted :-) The look in their eyes is enough thanks!

Oh, oh... if the word gets out Patricia you are bringing your sketchbook to parties I bet your dance card will be full before the season even starts! All kidding aside bringing your sketchbook with you would be a priceless gift in so many ways!

I love entertaining and taking a moment to step aside and watching everyone laughing, smiling having a grand time. Our wedding (Dec 22) was a few days before the Christmas so this time of year is magical for me.

BTW no bad photoshot could hide the beauty of your work!

what a lovely idea!
I think the best parties I've been to are family get-togethers. When I was little I used to love to sit at the grown-ups' table and listen to them talk about their grown-up topics and act intellectual and clever and witty. I still love to do that.

Tis the season :) I love the idea of you "working the crowd!" One of my favorites is when I'm not the host or have anything to do with the party, just attending. Then I get to sit with one person the whole time, gossiping and nibbling on goodies and people watching!

I think capturing the mood of a party is very special. My sister has had wonderful parties at her loft in downtown Kansas City that have had such a great variety of personalities.
