dreamer

Whenever Winter arrives,  I cannot help but think of warm tropical escapes that cause my dreamer to kick in.
Sun.
Sand.
Belly time.
Island escape.

Do you ever dream of get-aways at a place like this?
Take a look at Christophe Harbour.
Staying in a chic bungalow, footsteps from the beach.
How dreamy to escape to a place in the midst of Winter and soak up the sun.
Are you a dreamer?
Tell me, I'm not the only one.

dreamy friday

Imagine yourself waking up from a dream and landing here, rested and refreshed.  Imagine that everything you do today revolves around shades of white, bone, pale gray and golden accents.
You saunter over to your dressing table and apply a fresh face before you prepare a healthy breakfast.

Piping hot oatmeal, fresh fruit and some roasted coffee.
What a pretty kitchen.  Light, airy and clean.
Your mind wanders to wishes and place settings for Thanksgiving and gathering with those you cherish.
Then you think that a place setting needs to be there for the one's that cannot be with you.
Mother Nature cards from Austin Press are used for each guest to write a Thanksgiving wish.

After a busy day of dreaming, I find this pillow so soothing and all I want to do is sit a spell and cozy up at home on friday nite to a clean home and to my dear husband.
A dreamy pair of chairs to sit a spell and spend time enjoying one another's company and the desire to lighten up after a long week.

Hope your friday is dreamy.
Do you allow yourself time to dream?

dreams

Do you have a dream?
Of course you do. We all need to have dreams.
Dreams help lead us along.
Dreams live on, long after...
My dream is a resplendent blend of respect for the past and hope for a bright future.
Do you have dreams for the future?

Take a moment of silence today in honor of Martin Luther King.

flashbacks

As an artist, I have flashbacks that are so incredibly vivid and one indelible memory was of President Kennedy and the First Lady. Look at those smiles and the hope in the faces of the crowd. Do you have flashbacks to moments in your life that marked a certain time and place?
I was only 3, but in an instant those happy faces were gone in a flash. I knew I had to draw or paint to find happiness and to bring it to all the sad faces around me.

Shortly thereafter, my Grandma Elsie passed away and I have vivid memories of going to the sideboard drawer in the dining room and taking out the manilla paper and shoe-box lid of crayons and making pretty pictures to bring smiles to my Mom and those around me.

Do you have flashbacks? What events have helped to shape your life?

pretty white stuff

pretty pencils from Olive Manna
I like pretty things. Last night before I went to bed, I decided to keep a pencil and a pretty journal near my bed in order to record all of my dreams.
If I should wake, I would hop over here, jot down all of my dreams (under the light of this pretty white lamp found here) which began to look like this.

I had a dream last night about pretty white stuff. I dreamt I woke up here under this pretty canopy of white.
I stumbled out of bed into this pretty white bathroom, and took a lovely shower. I loved the stack of fresh towels at the ready. It sure beat having to holler for a "towel, please!" The fresh white flowers were a nice touch too.
Then I dressed in all white and went to this dreamy kitchen to prepare myself an all white feast of french toast with powdered sugar, white cocoa and a plate of bananas, fresh yogurt and blueberries. How does that sound to you, pretty, right.
My all white keyboard was calling out to me to come and check my blog for comments as well as e-mails and then to get to work.
This space is too pretty to show only once. I have twins, so that is my excuse.
(Pretty Double entendre )
The design meeting would take place in a studio like this, lots of light, a large table to view designs, lots of chairs, kid friendly chairs too - should my client need to bring a wee one along.
Moms understand Moms. Candles would be lit to clear the air in the fragance of "White Fir."

A large inspiration board full of images at the ready. Some fresh white tea would be offered and some heaping plates of biscuits (and gravy) too. ( No a white tin of biscotti silly.)
Right around the corner would be a slightly more "cluttered" think tank where the work would really happen. All this juxtaposed by a pretty corner couch and chaise and a wall of art with stories. I crave a bit of ordered clutter in my day as well as my dream. I like to call my style "vintage modern"- I guess I just cannot help myself, I need to look back but push forward.
I suddenly woke up to a squeal as I looked out the window at pretty white stuff, white snow, bright snow and realized my dream of pretty white stuff was real. I had been blanketed in white. I did have a little "premeditated" help with this dream, as school had been cancelled yesterday before the snow gods had even begun to shower us with pretty white stuff.

Can you blame a gal for creating a pretty white dream? Do you dream in color?
I am hopping back into bed for a little reading and some more dreaming.

weekend rest

The above artwork, by Rebecca Litt has me feeling inspired to rest this weekend.  I aim to take a nap, on my bed or in our hammock.  There is nothing like sleep to make one feel rested.
Fresh white sheets, and an open window for a little breeze.  Zzzzz.  Have a restful weekend.

cabinet of dreams

My cabinet of collectibles
My cabinet is full of collectibles. Royal Copenhagen China purchased in the city at an Antique shop for a song. A miniature bust, a gift from an Aunt who traveled the world and shared her stories and artifacts. Treasured porcelain place cards to mark one's place of honor at my table on special occasions. The pretty pink decoupage plate, a hand-made gift from my daughter which serves cookies or chocolate in style. Life has swiftly carried us away to a time where these items remain in a cabinet, under lock and key. Perhaps an inaugural dinner is just what I need to prepare to set my table with my fellow high ranking constituents. Will you be celebrating history in a special way by creating a special table or planning a memorable menu?
The sheet of calligraphy tucked behind is the "grace" that was recited on my wedding day, a special occasion. A day full of creating a life of dreams.

Let each of us give grace to the cabinet in charge and hope for the coming years to instill a life of honor, gratitude and dignity to our country.
