paint me

For the love of this cheery dresser, I am on the hunt for some dingy old chest of drawers that need some love in the form of a bright new coat of shiny paint. Amazing what love and the color of the ubiquitous Tiffany Blue box can inspire. I love this gem of a color, how about you?
See what a "My little green notebook" did with paint!
Look at what Jenny did. Rumor has it that the canvas drop cloth never gets moved for it is in perpetual use. I for one can hardly wait to see what she does next. She even painted those boxes on top of that hot-rod red chest. Never underestimate the power of a pregnant lady, especially when something is calling out those magical words "paint me!"

summer dragonflies

Summer dragonflies all aglow and orange, the above photo was sent to me by Fifi Flowers-after she saw my dragonfly painting below.  I thought I would post it so that you could see how amazing they truly are in reality!

Years ago, I hand painted these dragonflies in a Victorian Kitchen.  I still love these every time I see them.  The wall that I painted them on is an angled wall that is under the stairs, so it was sort of like painting on a ceiling.  My neck was a little soar days after but it is so worth it to see that they still are in flight.  My client gave me an old french postcard for inspiration.  I have also been fascinated with insects, butterflies and bees.  Beauty for me takes flight in nature.
What is your favorite insect?

tray bien

Being a practical type, trays serve me well.   Not only are they great for serving tea or lemonade, they also are good for collections. Decorative trays become works of art answering to a decorative side. The above tray was painted for a client to give to a Bride & Groom to serve as a memory of where their wedding took place, on the grounds of an exquisite formal garden of great music -Caramoor.

two by two

As a mother of twins, I have a special place in my heart for twins. When babies are en route, friends often think of me to hand paint personalized gift items.  I painted these stools prior to the arrival of twin boys for a friend, also a mother of twins.

There are two types of people, one who gives me a clear idea of what they want and the other who just gives me creative license to paint what ever I see.  The only word given to me was "not traditional" and so I had great fun painting these stools with a nod to the mod.

Here's the stool for Henry.  I adore the name Henry!
The one below is for Elliot, another wonderful name!
Welcome to the world and may you always step two by two!

monkey see, monkey do

My daughter recently gave a "scientific explanation" on How monkey's communicate at her school.  Each student became an "expert" in their own topic and it was so much fun for me to see how each child worked to gather information and present it in a clear and concise presentation.   Did you know that monkey's swing when they are happy and that they can sing and can be heard up to three miles away.  All of the parents are still in awe of how the teacher was able to pull this off, as each child had their own unique area of study.  Our little experts were donning white lab coats for a day as a "Doctor!"
Monkey see, monkey do!  I painted this monkey for a  for a nursery and this monkey is having a ball swinging from limb to limb.  If this monkey were afraid, the teeth would be showing to show signs of fear.  He is smiling and "monkeying around!"  That is what monkeys like to do.
As an artist, one of the things that I love are to paint things with a twist.  This tree has the colors of all the Four Seasons.
The bedding was from dwell studio (painted before they had dwell designs in Target!) and I was inspired to mimic the leaves in the pattern and introduce several other colors to add to the palette to create a simple tree and some playful leaves falling about the room.
A bit of blue sky is always needed, even on the worst of days.  Flip the switch and Mr. Golden Sun lights up the room.

springtime

This sweet little girl wanted her room to feel like springtime all year long, so I painted delicate branches with blooms, birds, butterflies and bees.
