mouth marinade

Just had to share a pretty funny story with you.

Over the holiday vacation, my husband decided to make one of his special marinades and grabbed a pretty bottle on the counter up at the ski house. (Well, instead of it holding "olive oil" - it housed "liquid soap.") He tasted his marinade and blurted out not one but several choice superlatives.

I told him, I was going to wash his mouth out with soap...or rather with a mouth marinade. He did not laugh. Somehow his happy accident became my mistake. He was able to save the meal and make a new marinade with another pretty container holding the extra virgin olive oil.

Do you keep soap in pretty containers, ( and oils & vinegars) too?
Love these pretty vessels.

  1. That is funny! I keep washing up liquid in a vintage pharmacy bottle, it just looks so much better decanted.

  3. We keep our dish detergent in a pretty bottle with a cork on top. The same is true for our olive oil, however, the vinegar comes packaged in its own pretty vessel.

  4. That is hilarious. I don't use decorative bottles for soap in the kitchen and I may think twice now before attempting it!

  9. This is totally something my fiance would do and for sure scream the same things your husband did!

I actually need to find a new pretty soap container for our kitchen sink, thank you for the reminder. The one we had was too slippery and it slipped right out of my hand one day- oops

  10. oops! I do keep my dish soap in an olive oil dispenser. Of course, I also keep it right next to the sink and hand soap. The olive oil is near the stove!

  11. haha - classic! Yes, I see so many people do that with their soap, but I prefer to keep mine hidden away under the sink (in order to avoid things like that!).

  13. hysterical! Our dish detergent is in a little built-in pump next to the sink that the past owners installed... very practical...but I always liked the idea of using pretty bottles.

  14. Very funny story! I just try to buy things that come with beautiful packaging but the dish soap is indeed a toughie - someone should just make a lovely simple plastic bottle!

  17. This is a cute story to share! I use to have a fancy soap bottle, but my husband always complained about it being pretty, but not practical. LOL... so I just keep Mrs. Meyers in her own container and now put her under the sink. Could exercise to bend when I need her. xo

  21. So hilarious!! I used to keep the dishsoap in a pretty glass bottle but now the space is to narrow and I'm afraid of it falling into the sink and breaking.
Funny too how it was "your" mistake...glad all was salvaged in the end! ;)

  24. Patricia- He was smart enough to taste the marinade before he put meat or fish in it!

Our olive oil is in a conical stainless steel vessel with one of those long, thin necks reaching from the bottom. So nice to drizzle with!
