I was on my way to be a guest of this very fit as a fiddle gentleman, Nate Berkus. I sat up in my seat and my mind drifted while I admired several very "fit" members of the audience.
At a recent event, another lady told me that she was not going to just sit there and read another sad story of some demise of one of her friends who had just given up the fight to look fabulous at 40 or even at 50. She told me, "Letting it all go is not an option for me, therefore I choose to put up a fight and keep moving!"
What sort of train are you on, an express or the one that makes every stop?
Do you have a regimen of diet and exercise that you just abide by without question, never making any stops and starts? Love to know if any of you have ever had a personal trainer or fitness guide?

Morning PVE;
I had to comment, now that I am in the over 40 crowd. I do go to the gym several days a week on the olyptical and treadmill. I am looking for 6 miles and sometimes I also take a yoga, weight, or cardio ontop of that.
It does make me feel good all day.
It also gives me time to think and plan out my day.....

I am totally not regimented in my exercise routine...and a trainer, i am sad to say, did not help in my quest for regiment in the exercise arena. I kind of HATE the gym:) I like to walk, eat what I like (within reason), and have given up the dream of my 18 year old body, I am who I am, and as long as I can stay within 5-8 lbs of my goal, I think I am happy (although I do dream of the super model physique...sigh:) Must go take a walk now! --Gretchen O.
Well, I just turned 50 and have been exercising since my early late 20's, even through both of my pregnancies. I am not obsessed, just make it part of the daily routine. I do pilates via my On Demand cable service and alternate with weights. I exercise every other day for about 50 minutes per session, and that's just enough for me. I want to enjoy life!
One can't give up!! I'm on my way to a very big birthday (in my mind at least) and I'm marching towards it with determination, that is for sure!
The best program I've ever done is pilates with a trainer. I find more and more I have to watch what I eat and stay very active, which isn't hard with younger kids!
And please, what a tease...Nate Burkus?!? More information, stat.

I just don't like working out with a trainer. It feel like making conversation at a cocktail party. I've been meeting with a trainer once ever six weeks or so and she changes my workout, then I do it on my own. It's much harder than anything I would do without a plan.
Seriously, Nate Berkus, that is a tease, please tell more.
And I'm currently trying to get out of a gym contract:(
Patricia, I just had to leave a comment on this post. I have been a long time fitness fanatic, and gym member. AS I became more "mature", I found NIA, and have joyfully worked out ever since. Take a look at their website, nianow.com, to learn more. I leave my NIA class and feel happy and fit all day. By the way, I am not employed by NIA, just a happy participant! I think that you would love it!
You know I love my yoga, but aside from that, I think it's key to keep moving doing something, anything, and that it's good to shake things up. Keeps the body guessing what's coming next!
Do it! Make it part of your morning routine- like caring for your skin. I hear some women say "I don't have time"! What? One life {as far as we know}, one body! Soon it becomes the bast part of your day and one great move leads to another...
I used to work out with a group run by a former Navy SEAL. The habit of four years stuck. I try and do something (all calisthenics and running at home) 4-5 days a week. Even a 15 minute total body workout, if you push yourself, shows good results after a bit. I have the pullup bar and do a set of ten whenever I walk under it. The diet is simply to be more careful about portion control and snacking is limited to fruits, nuts and sparkling water these days. Not too hard to stick to in the end. Once you get the habit. A trainer can help with that.
very inspiring - as ever !!!
I'm the crazy person in front of you in the grocery line doing calf raises. I find that I feel better when I exercise and the Wii has changed my life in a good way.
you SO have to share the Nate details! what a wonderful opportunity. I love spinning - I do a 1 hour class a week during the school year and my husband bought me my own bike for home so I ride alot. LOVE it. It's a great cardio class and calorie burner, with added benefits of strength in core. even tones my arms. Not for the faint of heart though, it's a tough class but very addictive. Try it!
Good post...love the image!
I was a personal trainer for 17+ years. It is very rewarding to help people change their lives for the better and teach good nutrition.
I power walk, or ride my bike everyday and do weights 2 or 3 times per week. Hubby and I are on our second round of P90X, an at home DVD program that is pretty killer. We are an active family, usually water ski at least once during the week and on weekends.
Of course healthy eating goes along with that!
I love to spin and take tower Pilates (not mat) in a studio - both invigorating! Add an cardio on elliptical on off days. No "dieting" but I eat mostly vegan based on my taste with a smidge of delicious cheese or an occasional farm fresh egg from Stone Barns. So much delicious fresh and local food around. No wine or alcohol - I know that sounds intense but I feel so much healthier without! No trainer but I stick with certain instructors for sure.
I want to thank each of you for your energetic comments. I have a date with the trainer~
So appreciative of all the great info regarding each of your own fitness regimes!

I had a personal trainer for awhile and it really was a good motivation although I didn't love going to see him each day. Now I am just running on my own and sign up for races to keep motivated.
I quit the gym a few years back as I really don't like the time I spent there. I'd rather be outside in the fresh air (even though I'm not a particularly outdoorsy type).
I've been walking regularly - 3 times a week in most weather, I take an umbrella if it's a bit wet. Either an exercise walk for an hour, or a meandering errand walk for 1-2 hours.
I recently joined a small yoga class twice a week and because there is never more than 10 people in the class, it's almost like a personal yoga teacher. It's quite strenuous but still so enjoyable. You feel like you've had the world's biggest stretch afterwards and a good workout.
I'm so glad I've found some exercise I enjoy. I used to do my weights at the gym with one eye on the clock, it was so boring. And as for the treadmill, tedious!
Great post.
