doing what you "otter"

David Lloyd painting of an "otter"

I am back home from my weekend romp in Chicago, capturing my prey, filling my eyes with details and moments and getting it all down on paper.  Have you ever found yourself in a situation and said to yourself, "Now this is what I call a "doing what you otter" moment?  For me, I know that sketching fast and trying to take it all in is a bit like a kid in a candy store metaphor.

After my bags are unpacked and I come down from my "high" - I plan on posting some of the wedding sketches and sharing some graceful tips on how you can find your inner otter!  Indeed, it is akin to falling in love, and only you will know what "otter" suits you best.  Think about what you really want to pursue that will add a creative outlet to your life.  Are you on a mission to design or create a more artful life?  What is holding you back from playing like you "otter?"

Thought provoking post. I'm envious that you were in Chicago. I miss the days I would head there for the weekend. When I was in college my girlfriends and I would get the train in East Lansing and head over. Many years later, I would drive my children there to visit our family. Now that I'm in CT, it's more like mission impossible!

Hope you had a fabulous time ~

Jo-
It is an easy flight from NY and such a great city, clean, incredibly nice people and so uplifting. I am hoping one of my sons will go to school near there so I can visit. ( I do have a few years until then)

Great post! I'm feeling that I'm on the threshold between one "otter" and another. As the seasons and situations in my life change, I find my "otters" changing, too. I'm looking forward to hearing more - about otters, and your trip to Chicago. Sounds like you had fun, and I'm glad about that!

I would like to take more of a "lead" in my book club. I am more passive than I'd like to be there (surprisingly):)
I otter volunteer to lead a few meetings.

Also, I otter to write more - start a short story series.

Thank you Ms. Otter. You are very thought provoking.

Oh, I'm ALWAYS on that mission. Right now the thing that's keeping me from doing what I "otter" is a kitchen remodel. But in late August I'll be taking another art class. I always take them "for credit" even though I graduated from college in the 1980's. Knowing I'm getting graded keeps me on the beam, and when other duties arise I can always say, "but I've got to do my homework."
