A trip to the orchard to pick apples is a fun way to spend the day. Picking apples, and filling up bushels to bring home to make apple sauce, pies, and tasty treats should be an annual fall event. Truly picking and eating an "apple a day" has many benefits. My daughter, "the apple of my eye" recently went to Barton Orchard, with another family and brought home some of the best apples I have ever eaten!
What is your favorite apple variety? Love to hear what you make with your apples!
Do you eat an apple a day?
Patricia,
ReplyDeleteI love love love your sketch! As for apples... Gala! Cold and crunchy! Mmm! I should eat them everyday but I don't!
darby-
ReplyDeletehmmm. gala are good! I bet your children would love picking apples too! thanks for loving my sketch!

I love "pink ladies", among others! I think that's what they're called, anyway...
ReplyDeleteDo you sell your sketches? :)
becca,
ReplyDeletelove "pink ladies" too -
yes, indeed, I sell them, mostly commissioned, but am working on a series for sale.
I began selling door to door when I was in elementary school.... funny, right!

Green Apples! (then Gala, then Mac's)
ReplyDeleteheidi-

Love the apples your DD picked. So delish! My all time fave are Granny Smith hands down.
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend as always I love your illustration!!
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy eating apples and making apple slices. A recipe from my mom's Aunt Hilda.
As for eating an apple a day, my dad acutally did. (smile)
I love how you use to sell your work as a child door to door!! I love, love children's art!! Do you have any art from those days to share?
Have a golden day!
Oh, I love apple picking although I always come home with a bushel and no ideas what to do with them. Sorry I can't provide more inspiration but its a great fall activity.
ReplyDeleteHoney crisp and golden delicious are my absolute favorites.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I ate TWO apples! I'm really into dipping my apple slices in natural peanut butter these days, so I had one at lunch and one for a dessert while watching the debate.
This sketch is just lovely!
We LOVE apples in our house. As a matter of fact...and I'll admit I've lost some of my apple-savvy...I used to work in a farm market as a teenager, selling all sorts of varietals from the orchard.
ReplyDeleteFavorite apple recipe: my mother's apple pie with a crumble top. Delish.
Reminds me to take the kids for a trip for picking soon!
Macintosh is my favorite apple :-) Tart and sweet! I eat about 5 a week, year round! I love cider and apple pie, but have never made either!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful illustration! Makes me want to hop in the car and find an orchard of my own. I love fuji apples first and then green ones next. Someone just told me about a fabulous sounding sandwich: You grill a whole wheat pita and then put thinly sliced green apples and feta cheese inside. Can't wait to try that one.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. I thought I was the only fan of pink ladies. I love them. I admit that the name at first is what got me to buy them, but they taste so good I became a loyal buyer. I can't wait to make my first apple pie for the season (I use granny smith for that).
ReplyDeleteI adore the sketch as well. You are too talented. I love them all! Now I want one of me and my pup :) They are beautiful.
Beautiful picture, as always. And I forgot to say yesterday that I love the orange background! And my favorite thing about fall is the crisp air.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my favorite apples are honeycrisp and pink ladies, though I tend to buy whichever local organic apples are available; they always taste best.
That orange background is nice and so is the drawing. Apples. Well, my husband eats them every day.
ReplyDeleteGreat sketch, so evocative of great Fall memories when I was little up North! I have been eating these great caramel apples I found here locally - so good!
ReplyDeleteI love going apple picking (yep, we have apple orchards in SoCal!)and you beautiful illustration makes me want to head out of work and get to it.
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favorite apples are Pippins, but I love Galas and they are much easier to come by most of the time. But I only bake apple pie with Pippins. It's a hard and fast rule.
rachel,
ReplyDeleteoh - your apple pie must be stunning!
pippins are another favorite, off to make an angus beef stir fry with ginger and scallions.....

Love your sketch! Charming! I prefer Jonathans, McIntosh and Red Delicious.. My little Sis and her son are coming to town this weekend and we are going to the apple orchard we went to as kids to help start a tradition for her son and his cousins! I love making home made apple sauce! and apple crisp! Yummo!!
ReplyDeleteWe're going pumpkin picking tomorrow. Love the illustration.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a macintosh girl! Through and through!
ReplyDeleteOhh--we went to the orchard on Sunday and came with glorious apples, some hand-dipped in caramel! Although I love these apples unmodified, I plan to make apple crisp this weekend . . .
ReplyDeleteA lovely drawing!
Love this post.. I love going to the orchard and haven't made it yet this year. Our orchard has the BEST apple cider donuts!!!! My fav apples are probably pink ladies or honeycrisp. oh by now I'm itching to go..
ReplyDeleteps- thanks for the decor advice :-) it's always welcome and appreciated!!!

Wonderful illustration!
ReplyDeleteAnd,yes I really do try to eat an apple a day. Which is especially easy this time of year with so many delicious ones around. I also make a killer apple pie, if I do say so myself!!
