summer dragonflies
Summer dragonflies all aglow and orange, the above photo was sent to me by Fifi Flowers-after she saw my dragonfly painting below. I thought I would post it so that you could see how amazing they truly are in reality!
Years ago, I hand painted these dragonflies in a Victorian Kitchen. I still love these every time I see them. The wall that I painted them on is an angled wall that is under the stairs, so it was sort of like painting on a ceiling. My neck was a little soar days after but it is so worth it to see that they still are in flight. My client gave me an old french postcard for inspiration. I have also been fascinated with insects, butterflies and bees. Beauty for me takes flight in nature.
I think I love dragonflies best... love when they visit my ponds... bright orange and gorgeous! My second would be ladybugs... every year they get into my master bedroom somehow and breed... we have now named our room " le chambre coccinelle" Ladybug Room. Great Painting!
ReplyDeleteMy sister LOVES dragonflies, your painting is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI like to paint CUTE bees amd I like ladybugs, butterflies I like... other than that I can do without them. I've been on a quest for years to try and figure out God's purpose for flies... I still don't see their usefulness. Unless... perhaps to test my patience?
oh my, i love your dragonflies. they must have been the perfect compliment to that victorian kitchen....i must say my favorite insect is the spider (but i guess they're not really insects...i think). so beautiful yet a bit sinister. and they make such incredible creations. i think of them as the artists of the insect world...
ReplyDeleteI am actually a HUGE fan of silly little fireflies. Just because they bring so much fun to the summer. It's almost their season!
ReplyDeleteooo, fireflies, hadn't thought of those -- nostalgic and magical. the giant bumble bee has always been a favorite of mine, esp. by an enormous full bloom -- almost 'alice in wonderland-like'. secretleaves.com has some fabulously curious flora and fauna made of found ephemera, fyi. love them too.
ReplyDeleteand roly-poly's. those oft overlooked teeny tiny knights.
ReplyDeleteI love your dragonflies! I think butterflies are my favorites with ladybugs a close second.
ReplyDeleteLovely dragonflies! I'm sure that painting is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite insect would probably have to be the butterfly. I'm not much of a bug fan :)
WOW... you posted the picture... FUN... that dragonfly was gorgeous in person... BRIGHT ORANGE! (very friendly too... landed on my son's finger)
ReplyDeleteWow, you PAINTED these yourself? I'm in awe! They're exquisitely detailed.
ReplyDeleteI love insects, in art/jewelry rather than on my skin though...
Those are so pretty, I like the colors. I so know your neck pain in this case girl!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteOh I adore dragonflies. Have you seen the movie 'Dragonfly'. Heart wrenching, beautiful. I also love bees.
ReplyDeleteLove these!
ReplyDeleteGet out! These are stunning! My B is all about dragonflies right now...I can't wait to show him your post!
ReplyDeleteThanks to each of you who admired my dragonflies!
ReplyDeleteI also prefer insects in the form of diamonds! But then again, we need all these creatures, the birds and the bees.
Patricia
A beautiful painting, and so elegant.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite insect in art is the napoleanic bee. I just bought new bedroom curtains with the bee in olive green on white cotton, can't wait to put them up... after I iron them...
You are so talented - it just slays me!!!!!! unreal! very very impressive.
ReplyDeleteLove your work!! These dragonflies are divine Patricia!
