Happy Derby Day

Wishing each of you a Happy Derby Day.  I created this work for J.McLaughlin on thursday and friday it was posted to the J.McLaughlin facebook, talk about fast!  Hope each of you enjoy the Derby in style and sip a mint julep in honor of My Old Kentucky Home.  Question, horse-shoe up or down?

  2. Horse shoe up...to insure that the "luck" does not run out.
My grandparents and all the the horse people I know follow this. Makes sense to me!
    Mint julep time very soon!!

  4. Love your painting of the julep! My eyes always tear up when they play My Old Kentucky Home...great Derby Day for Kentucky with local boy Shug and Orb winning. I hope you had a great day and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  7. This is darling!!! We attend the most fun Derby party each year and this year we were especially glad to be watching it on tv and not at the track - to wet this year!

Love your illustration! I've heard shoe up...to "catch the luck", but like the way yours looks.

Either way, the shoe was definitely on the right foot for Orb!

  8. Great illustration. My husband had the exacta, on my daughter's encouragement to go w/a longer shot for second, so we definitely celebrated with a mint julep.
