T'is the season to start planning one's Thanksgiving menu and here is an illustration I did for November's Sheridan Road's Good Eats article. How about some of Nora Ephron's Sweet Potatoes Anna with prunes?
Pass the cranberry sauce please as long as it's Nigella Lawson's Red Cranberry Saucy sauce.
Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year? What good things do you plan to prepare for Thanksgiving?
Patricia - Your illustrations made me want to make the recipes!! Adorable!! I will be cooking for two of my three children home for the holidays (third is a musician in San Diego and has a "gig" on Saturday so can't fly home)and my mother up from Florida. Small crowd but it will be great to be with my family. I can't wait to cook a big dinner since it's been just the two of us since September!
ReplyDeletePatricia I am not hosting as my dear Mother at 82 still wants to have us all. We each bring a dish though and I am thinking the Sweet Potatoes will be a hit!

Patricia, your illustrations are so charming. You've captured the spirit of these two lovely ladies. We're heading to my parents for Thanksgiving and I'm still waiting to hear from Mom which of her traditional recipes she wants me to take charge of this year. I love eating the same foods year after year. It's what Thanksgiving tastes like to me! Hope your Thanksgiving plans are perking along! XO
ReplyDeleteThis is the year we eat with my family, so we will head up to our little house in the foothills and gather together on Thanksgiving. I am always in charge of the pies: Pumpkin, Pecan and Apple. And I have been asked to make my French Canadian Sausage Dressing!
ReplyDeleteI echo the sentiment of previous posters...you really did bring out the personalities of your subjects! I am in awe of your talent!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a family, I was raised as a ward of the State, so we go to my husband's. This year I decided to make acorn bread like his late Grandfather used to (he died before I met my husband). Wish me luck! I have no idea what I am doing!

Andie
brilliant...three uber cool ladies. You, Nora and Nigella.
ReplyDeleteI will be making my Grandmother's oyster casserole. Which she didn't really have a recipe for...it has taken me years to make it taste like hers.
Lovely illustrations.
ReplyDeleteNo menu yet, but I gotta get hopping as I am the cook!

We are reviving our tradition of celebrating two Thanks givings as my daughter and brood will be spending the holiday with her husband's parents. So there will be a lot of cooking.......Love It. I make a cranberry chutney with apples, ginger, cloves, etc. that everyone loves. Plus tons of pies.
ReplyDeleteLove the illustrations! Makes me what to try the recipes! We all divy up the tasks at hand not sure what mine is yet but I think dessert!! Got to figure it out quickly!
ReplyDeleteI adore your illustrations Patricia...We love Nora Ephron for her movies, novels, essays, screenplays, but I wonder, does everyone know that she was an excellent cook? This makes me want to include Sweet Potatoes Anna for Thanksgiving this year.
ReplyDeleteLove sweet potatoes....and your illustrations! I can't wait for Thanksgiving this year.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love Nigella!! I am hosting this year, so will look at these two recipes to maybe switch things up a bit.
