Kentucky Derby

The 138th running of The Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday.
This work of art by Robert Joyner makes me feel as though I am right there in the mix.
This work has a sort of "Mad men" air to it, love her green dress, the red nails, mint juleps in hand and his classic southern proper navy blazer and straw boater....I admire the fierce and fast brush strokes.
Hope you will be watching the race with a mint julep in hand.

I love his style too! His painting is fast and furious with passion.
No mint julep for me, but a margarita. ;) This weekend will be a lot of celebrating. Happy Derby and Cinco De Mayo! xo

I wonder if the mint juleps were served in a sterling silver cup... You have reminded me of a wonderful article from years ago about the history (and science)of mint juleps -- written be a former Washington Post food writer and science professor. It took me a while to find it again, but it is very amusing and worth reading... I've wanted to try a mint julep ever since. The article is called "One Mint Julep":

Have a wonderful weekend -- enjoy the race and your mint julep!

Being from the south-yes, Mint Juleps are served in silver glasses, cups. They are powerful + tasty!
