This week, I confess, I am a bit obsessed with the artwork of Chardin. The life of drudgery and daily tasks are inspirational. Just back from the market "schlep" and now to put everything away and then get on with my work.
Would you believe I have the same basket/tote in green?! I use it for picnics, farmer markets and at times to the store. I do keep a bag in my car for when I go to Trader Joe's, but I'm sad to say when I go for our bi-weekly shopping I don't have a big enough market bags. I love the word "schlep" I use to say this all the time when I use to paint on porcelain. Enjoy your day my friend! xo
While living in Spain back in the '80's,carrying a mesh market bag was the thing to do.. and I continue the tradition today with my market bags..which I return to my car after putting away groceries.. also in my purse are foldaway bags which I use when out shopping.. these are convenient, fold into themselves in a little zippered case! happy shopping.. warmest hugs.. good morning, pve! thanks so much for coming by ~ lovely to see you again as well! xo
i definitely 'schlep' (a dandy word!) bags wherever i go ... i have the regular market fare variety for doing the tough grocery jobs ... and then i have a couple of hand made bags ~ one, a lovely floral vintage fabric, the other, a heavier upholstery fabric that rolls up neatly in my purse!
i made a few as christmas gifts this year ~ pretty silk and satiny ones for my niece and our son's girlfriend ~ y'know for those more delicate purchases ... : ) ... and a heavier one for my sister-in-law for toting books.
I have a variety of market bags, depending on the amounts I am schlepping, the season and my outfits.... some are clearly more summery and some, well for the moment....
My favorite paintings are those that show daily life -just as my favorite part of house museums is the 'behind the scenes': kitchens, attics, servants quarters. Thats where life HAPPENED and where life has changed the most. I schlep my boat & tote bags from ll bean to teh grocery store with me - monogrammed of course. They're so nice and sturdy -the cashiers always are super jealous and ask where I get them!
Beautiful top image Patricia! Yes!! Sometimes my only exercise for the day is a walk to the market and I ordered the prettiest market tote from etsy. Just wish the quality were better--might have to make my own :)
I love the Europe touch! I always think of the French with baskets at the market, fresh herbs and wonderful warm bread. The English with wicker baskets in the country or wheeled bags in London. I do try and always to take bags with me and a wheely bag when I actually do make it to our fabulous market for fruit and veg!
I am embarrassed to say I pack them into my car & without fail never tote them into the store with me. Remembering to actually 'take' them into the store could be a NY's Resolution! Happy Thursday from one schlepping lady to another xx
My market gives out a lovely reusable free bag any time you spend over $100. With all 6 of us home over the holidays, that obviously wasn't very hard to do so now I have a few to use!
I too love the work of Chardin- especially Soap Bubbles. I have a random assortment that I have collected from different places- it makes carrying bags a joy!
I keep colour co-ordinated bags in my cars so they are ready to "schlep" about when needed. But there are prettier and prettier ones about - so my collection is growing all too fast!

My market bags stay in my car so I can indeed "schlep" them into the market, when I remember to carry them in with me!
Best,
Susan
I'm always "schleping" things around...and I don't even have kids yet! I'm bound to have back aches in the future...
I bring my eco-friendly green bags with me so I can "schlep" to market.
I schlep my bags to the grocery...just keep them in my car so they are always there when I need them!
My intentions are good, but I often forget to schlep. Maybe if my bags were as attractive as those I would remember.

I do like to take my own bags with me when I go to the market. Carla

yep... I do it so often that a friend gave me some really pretty bags for Christmas. I actually wore some old one out.
I am loving the art you have been putting up - daily life should be art.
