full of applesauce

Home Page - Edgerton Park Conservancy Located in New Haven/Hamden CT
I have been busy making applesauce. My tree is loaded and each day I find many apples.
This gorgeous apple tree and apples are in my garden.
I love using this recipe. Someone's in the kitchen with Ina, and that someone would be me.
I substitute with the apples from my tree. Seems I cannot make it fast enough. We are full of applesauce around here.
What has nature been teaching you?

  1. When life gives you apples, you make applesauce! What a harvest you have on your hands - we've been eating apple pie on the beach all week.

  7. I don't have an apple tree where i live now. However, being Jamaican, i grew up with tons of fruit trees in my yard, and there's nothing better than using ones own fruits from ones own fruit trees in a recipe:-). Happy Monday.

  8. I love Ina, her books are my bibles in the kitchen!
My basil has grown like crazy this summer so I have been adding it to everything, even deserts.

  13. I love fresh apples! The deer have been jumping up to grab them in all the orchards around us, so its a great location for fawn watching. I love to see them play. Apples make me think summer is coming to an end. I am not ready.

  15. This summer,
    it's been all
    about the berries,
    for us! Lovely
    organic raspberries
    and blueberries from
    Costco, of all places!
    Going home to the
Pac NW at the end of
    the week....my folks
    have raspberries,
    blueberries and black-
    berries and nothing is
    more divine then picking
    them right before you
    eat them....on anything!
    Your applesauce sounds
like it might be in the
    same category: Bliss!
    xx Suzanne

  16. Yummy, I used to make applesauce with my students every September. We studied about Johnny Appleseed and did all kinds of activities involving apples. Your post brought back good memories. Carla

  17. Hi PVE,

We leave the east coast tomorrow to re-enter the academic world! It would be absolutely lovely to meet you, though, and I'm in the area every summer. Shall we try for next time?

  19. Randomness... there are hundreds of tree branches down and the temps have been fluctuating wildly in Richmond, VA. Tornados? A big wind regardless.

You, however, find beauty and bring it home wherever you are! Well done, Mrs. PvE! What a fine back yard.

Post the results of the endeavor.

  25. Apples are something that I miss from the north - now being in Florida. Used to love taking the kids on a hayride and pick apples in Connecticut.
