collectors collage

Years ago, I illustrated this work of art for the cover of a press kit for J.McLaughlin of the stores that they had at that time. I believe the store count was around a dozen. Currently, there are more than 40 stores scattered up and down the Eastern United States from Boston, New York, Nantucket, Palm Beach, Princeton, Charleston, Georgetown and The Hamptons and many more posh locales.

I began wondering about working on a collage of collectibles. I love collages, montages, decoupages and piecing things together. Then I thought suppose you had a collection of objects and you needed to take inventory, what about having them in a work of art. (Jewels, antiques, watches, wine, ribbons, medals, snuff boxes, silver, and the list goes on.)

What sort of brilliant collections do you have that would make a creative collage?

  3. I can't walk by a J. McLaughlin and not think of you - the one in New Canaan is the one I see most often! My collection of shoes would be a fun project!

    Frau,
yes photo collages are great. I love when I see my sister-in-law's collages, she has them in one large frame for each trip that her family has taken.

  12. Hmmmm....collections. I've saved all my moving cards - and for many years they were the same size and vibe from William Arthur. I just changed the color and the details. I've wondered what I could do with those!

And, I'm with Carolyn....can't see a J. McLaughlin without thinking of you!

  15. Such a terrific poster. Your style has such whimsy and fun, it's just terrific.

I have a collection of pitchers and crocks. I started it when I lived in Europe, such amazing finds at their flea markets. My collection is now finding its way into my paintings.

  20. Thanks for all your comments, I am thinking a collage of comments would be a fun work of art. Each one always keeps me motivated, inspired and so grateful for each of you. I added up the time that each comment takes and that is a lot of love.
