My Mother always told me that in her day, glamourous parties were referred to as "affairs." (Affairs were something you attended and not had.) She also alluded that to stand out in class, one needed to be a "class act." Words such as demure, sophisticated, elegant, classy and ladylike have always been part of my Mother's vernacular.
Every generation has something to gleam from it and I love mad men for the artfully staged fashions. I am mad about "Trudy" and her look. Is she not the epitome of a classy lady, one of formidible style and grace? Tell me, what are some trademarks of "classy" in your book?

I think you look like Trudy! Or, rather, Trudy looks like you... I have always admired women who make looking elegant effortless; that they were unaware of how stylish they looked. My Aunt Gloria is like that.
Best,
Colleen
I agree with Colleen above re you looking like Trudy. I thought at first it might be your mother. My idea of class is someone who can act with totally grace in difficult situations. I have a dear friend, Carolyn who is the standard for class.
I did a double take as you look so much like your mother. This is one absolutely divine photo of her. What came to mind immediately was the motto of, "less is more". That and a good grasp of the English language. Speaking properly along with looking well edited. My mother always told me at a young age to look a some of the best magazines for ideas and guidance. Your mother is a very wise woman Patricia and so very lovely. A true class act!! Have a splendid weekend xoxo
I ideas of classy are much like yours, ladylike, well-poised, and intelligent
Trudy exudes class and grace. I also love your mom's point of view:-). Also, thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday. Happy weekend to you.
Classic is staying power-be it the little black dress, navy jacket and making it always fresh and new. That is for fashion- a class act is giving having grace and giving grace. Now to Mad Men-I have struggled with this show- I do love fashion and maybe that is really what MM is along with the ambiance of that era. Gaye
I thought this was a photo of you or your mom!
Being classy is first a behavior followed by a polished, refined style. I get excited when I meet classy individuals in a world full of super trendy people.
FYI...check out classy(IMO) on Advanced Style's post 07/30/10.
Classy equals quality I think. Attitude, taking care of yourself,
dressing in the classics with adding something of your own to it.

I like how my grandmother uses the words "ghastly" and "lovely" instead of "lame" and "awesome." She also refuses to be referred to as a "guy," and will correct me if I ever say something like "so what are you guys doing?" in her presence. She insists on a certain level of classiness in speech.
Hi Patricia
thanks for popping over to visit.. I am yet to see Mad Men.. not sure if we have it here...
Funny you should ask.. I was just over at Deb's [Dumbwit Tellher] and she has posted on a recent movie starring Patricia Clarkson. She represents class to me.. pure elegance that comes naturally.. not contrived... Love these images.. just beautiful.. Have a lovely week xx Julie
To one of the true class-acts of the blogworld, "hello"!
I have been on an extended hiatus, but am now returned.
I adored Trudy's look. Including that mint julep!
May we all have a bit more poise and grace, like you and Trudy!
I love Mad Men. Have you seen this blog before? It has amazing summaries of all the character's clothing - and it's progression during each series. I can't get enough. Here's some about Trudy.

Oooh... tough to define. I don't like any of the adjectives. In turn, poised, abandoned, well-spoken, au courant, thoughtfully dressed and, above, all intelligent and always self-assured.
YOU!! ;) ;)

Your mom sounds like my mom and Grandma too- they both use all those words and still call parties affairs. I love that word and we should bring it back
