I have always been drawn to new locations or to new places that open in a new location. There is something fun about remembering what was there and then moving forward. The above illustration was done for
J.McLaughlin, they have a new shop opening in Winston- Salem, North Carolina. I love that when I began illustrating these shops, there were a mere three in New York and now there are many shops in fun locations. Much rather see a location thriving than empty. How about you, any news from your exotic locale?

New little stores and boutiques open up a lot here in SF; sadly, this means many close. However, the good ones have been here for years, and I always just enjoy taking a day and strolling through the different neighborhoods in the city...each one brings a bit of beauty and surprises in their own creative way.
A sweet shop illustration- you have paved the way with J. Mc's store locales. Wish there were one nearby-thankful for the internet. I love a cozy, little shop, with a 'keeper' offering new, and fun finds.
Anything that looks this charming outside...will always lure me in!
Your illustrations are great advertising for these lovely shops. I love seeing small businesses thrive and grow- Am always sad to see them suffer due to big chain stores that endlessly are being built. I love small town charm and uniqueness. A sad day if we ever lose that.
adorable! absolutely adorable!
enjoy your weekend.

I'm actually waiting to see what goes into the space where the old firehouse used to be in Ardsley village. I just realized you and I are both in Westchester!
Your illustrations make people want to shop at J. Mc. So fresh, happy, and beautiful. One of my "wants" is to have one of your pieces. xoxo
Adorable, I love the colors!
Such a great rendering! I love the green awnings, has such a great punch!
Patricia, I agree with prep 101, i always want what you illustrate. New shops are like Spring, fresh and surprising.
Is it possible that you meant LAKE Forest, IL? I live not too far from there and it would seem a perfect spot for a J.McLaughlin shop. Your illustrations are so perfect for their "look".
I love and adore that picture with the green awnings, so fab!
You are such a talent! Oh, how I wish I could draw and create like you. Sadly, everything seems to be closing here instead of opening. This little shop looks precious and one you would just want to visit. I'm sure it's equally as charming as their nyc store.
How fun to be part of something from the ground up. I haven't heard of Wake Forest. I love the green!! xo
I love your illustrations for J.McLaughlin. When will there be illustrations depicting the Osterville, MA and the Washington Depot, CT shops on their website?
You are so talented, girlie! They must love you at J. Mc. I know that I so treasure my own drawing!
Happy new week to you! ox Mon

I love what you do - you inject such personality into your creations!
Summer-
All the shops are illustrated, and I know they will update the site with the missing illustrations. I will gently remind them too - so thanks for taking note.

This shop is located in historic Reynolda Village in Winston Salem, N.C. It is one of the most beautiful retail villages, as they were all functional buildings for the original R.J. Reynolds estate. There are former black smith shops, chicken houses, dairy barns etc.. Thanks J. McLaughlin for becoming a part of our charming community!
