the whirlers

Please meet the "whirlers."
Are these flower girls not the fairest maidens?  Don't you just love their beautiful dresses, the floral pomanders gathered with elegant cypress green satin ribbons, the floral laurel wreaths and the sheer joy in their eyes to be part of a fairy tale event is something every girl can cherish.  Give it a whirl...girl...

As  I gathered them to pose for me, they were each "twirling and whirling" in their lovely dresses.  One whirler's head piece flung off.  Oh dear me.

My head felt dizzy and giddy with delight to capture the whirlers in this brief moment, and then they were off, moving twirling, and being little girls, full of sugar and spice.  Can you feel their mischief?  The younger little ones have that look of "let's whirl again" while the elder one lead the way with a more "appropriate" behavior of acting like the "big" girl on campus.  Now really, what girl could not resist a spin in a dress like that!
Alright, fess-up and tell me, are you a "whirler" when you put on a party frock?
I know that I cannot resist that temptation to whirligig when I don a frothy fairy god-mother sort of dress.  If only I could find my magic wand.
Do you feel more magical when you whirl?

I tap danced around the house in my new hot pink Varinas in my pj's and then again in my workout gear when they first arrived on Saturday. Does that count? Oh, and I also got caught taking a cell phone pic of my foot clad in said shoe while sticking out the car window mby my niece. Yup, pretty sure I was born a twirler....

Whirling always feels good. I think we need more of it as women. They are too sweet.

I love this picture-so light and whimsical.

And, of course, my daughter and I are twirlers!

What is it about a beautiful gown? Wether you are 4 or 44, the effect is the same. Dance, dance, dance!

Yes, I am a twirler and an unabashed poser when the occasion allows. The little ballerina in me lives on!

I was a whirler. In fact my mother had to make me sit on the sofa by the door before she'd let me go to church. If I had on so many petticoats it made my dress stand up when I sat down, I had to remove enough so that I could sit down in a ladylike fashion. Then it was off to see which one of us made it out our houses with the most petticoats on and who could whirl and twirl the longest. I had forgotten about that. Along with all of that starching that had to go on. I think you captured the impishness of the maidens to perfection.

I was more of a whirler as a child than now- 90% of the time I am in jeans or pants-harder to twirl-But I want to say- it looks like you are at the height of your talents with this special project. This portrait is so wonderful. At some point-I would love to hear about the process & how you did it! Can't wait to see more. la

Definately a whirler! I love donning a happy frock and whirling and twirling a bit! Mostly when alone behind closed doors, as to not scare my husband... Such sweet faces on these fair maidens.

This idea, to have a wedding illustrated is so lovely and there could not be a better hand than you for this, PVE! Well done!

Yes, but only in the right dress!

One thing that I find fascinating is that no matter how much time passes and how the world changes, children remain the same. I can just picture the same little girls twirling in pretty dresses before the eyes of Degas!

Hi Patricia
How very special and precious your rendering is!!!

I twirl when I have a star-shape wand in my hand, and it has streamers on the end of it. I keep it in my closet for when I have a special "need to twirl and whirl".

There is very little better than flower girls in weddings. And I think that everyone should whirl, twirl or dance -- especially when dressed up. Treat your formal clothing like pyjamas and you'll wind up looking like Fred and Ginger!

they are so darling!! I love putting on a dress that lifts up when I spin in circles really fast...I have not done it in awhile, I think its time I try it again soon :)

Ladies, who knew how many twirlers were amongst us. I think we need a blogger ball to don our finest gowns and as for the gentleman, I think they would be quite the talk of the town, a creative and soulful bunch.
Happy whirling!

Adorable Patricia! The girly girls and the drawings. When listening to my ipod all by myself, I've been known to take a twirl or two to amuse myself.

Love the whirlers! As for me...I still am one. Except now I'm older and get vertigo so need to adjust my whirling. :-)

Beautiful little flower girls - and you captured them so sweetly, right down to the pinks in their cheeks!

Yes - I was such a twirler (and in the right dress/shoes) still am!! My mother constantly was telling me to stop dancing around the house, eventually put me in ballet in hopes that outlet would be enough. To no avail. It just gave me official choreography - I danced all the more!
(My secret dream is to be ROXY HART!)

You sure captured the individuality of each attitude, and the all important mussed hair of one whirler. Oh yes, I was a whirler. My mom had a barrell full of prom dresses from the 1950's that I dressed up in constantly (always outdoors on the back lawn for some reason). The one I always reached for first was a deep sky blue satin with matching lace top layer. It had tons of blue net petticoats underneath, and I whirled that dress ragged.

Sad to say I don't whirl as much as I use to. Ahhh, youth. :(
