chicago bliss

I am leaving today, on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again...now that does sound really nice, but I am headed to Chicago to work, to"illustrate" a wedding! My heart is already 2 sizes larger with excitement to see a couple I have never even met, and then to illustrate that love on paper. I also will have the pleasure of meeting for dinner with a wonderful fellow blogger.

I know that the wedding details will be incredible and that I will be in heaven trying to capture it all right then and there. There is something tingly about doing this sort of work "live." I am praying for divine intervention, but then I know my blog fans will want to see what I see in the form of illustrations, right!

What sorts of illustrations would you have liked to have had or have of your wedding to hang in your home to remind you of that special day?

  2. You lucky, lucky girl! And those lucky two souls about to become one! Wow! Have a grand time...

I would have loved to have your magical artistic hands illustrate our day on the glorious steps of the San Francisco City Hall!

  4. Have a great time! What a lucky bride and what a fun trip to take.

One of my favorite photos from our wedding, was a photo of the back of my husband and I standing on the deck. The photographer caught me laying my head on my new husband's shoulder. The only bad thing was is that it was one of the photos the photographer was testing his brand new camera. We didn't have to pay for them, but it is dark and not great quality.

All that said, I look at it often. A stolen moment of happiness.

  7. You'll do a beautiful job on their illustrations, I've no doubt about it. After seeing your sketches from the Life Drawing class, it's so clear that you work well under the pressure of short poses and gesture. I'm so looking forward to seeing what you come back with. Enjoy your blogger dinner too! (Oh, I would have loved quick sketches done at my reception. The photographer took very few photos there, and I would have enjoyed seeing more. My husband and I were so busy going from table to table greeting that we didn't get to take it all in. We didn't even get to eat!)

  11. Thanks to each of you for your warm wishes for me to capture grace under pressure. There is something about working live or painting "en Plein air" that forces one to focus on what truly matters in minutes.
That said, I do have butterflies until I start seeing it all come down on paper.

  12. What a wonderful idea to have illustrations drawn of such a special day. The couple is indeed fortunate to have you along for the ride. And yes, we will want to see some of your work when you return.

  14. What a wonderful idea! I am positive you'll do a beautiful job, and that the bride and groom will treasure the illustrations. This may be too much information, but I would have loved an illustration of us alone right after the ceremony, but before the reception, when we were very first married. I would also love one of him looking at me, or when we were dancing (he hates to dance, so he danced as a favor to me). I also think illustrations of the bride and/or groom with special family members would also be lovely. Basically, you can't go wrong, I am sure they will treasure whatever you choose to illustrate!

  15. I am sending a special request to a special butterfly to help you with those butterflies in your tummy.

I truly don't mean this loosely, but you will be fine. Vision yourself in the corner of the room in your home where you create the beauty you do.

I do hope our weather will be on its best behavior.

    Safe travels my friend! xoxo

  24. I was in Chicago last fall for a wonderful wedding...it was pouring rain the entire weekend but it didn't even matter!

I would love to have an illustration of the photograph we have overlooking the entire church during our ceremony. We have it framed in our dining room and everyone that comes over that was there that day looks for themselves in the pews.

    Have a great trip!

  25. Oh my goodness I would not have even thought that! What a very fortunate gal!

    You will be fabulous!

As a recent bride, I can say that I would appreciate something capturing the emotion/love among family members as well as me and my husband. And, given the detail queen that I was, would love a few of the details people may not initially notice- like shoes, ribbons/flowers on the chair, that kind of thing.

Can't wait to hear all about it!

  29. Patricia, what a great job this weekend - I love the idea of wedding illustrations. For me I would like illustrations (other than the bride and groom) of the details - the invitations, the flowers, the cake - even some of the guests - the tables....that kind of thing, decor I guess. HAve fun, xv.

  31. I know you will capture the most perfect moments in your unique way Patricia. I wish I'd had you at our wedding 14 years ago. The image of the 5 boys at our table in their tuxs & on their best behaviour will never be repeated - the behaviour that is! Still makes my heart double its beats just thinking about it!

  32. i think this is perfect! i loved your quick sketches you recently shared from your classes...were you practicing? it is obvious you can look around a room and really see it...see what lies underneath. any stolen moments between the bride and groom would make great illustrations. yes, of course we will be waiting to see.
