Portobello Road, in the Knotting Hill district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London, has some of the most colorful portals. The architecture plays a part as much of the road meanders and curves gracefully. This lovely blue gray door was inspired by The Adventures of
Mrs. Limestone. How many of you are fascinated with doors when you travel?

ReplyDeleteHi Patricia,
ReplyDeleteYou really unlocks the doors of imagination with your beautiful ilustrations.
I loved all the big doors in India they looked like there was a fairy tale from one thousand and one nights behind them all.

I love all shapes and colors of doors. I'm also intrigued with windows. Looking outward, looking inward.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Kathy I like all shapes and colors of doors. I really like double doors. Another beautiful illustration! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI forgot blue doors when I listed all the colors I like the other day. I can't help but think of William Thacker's (Hugh Grant) blue door in the movie Notting Hill.
ReplyDeleteI love your illustration and I have a love for doors. When I was in Ireland I too a ton of pictures of the different doorways. Started to here Germany has unique doors just not as colorful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful doors add so much interest to any building. When we were at All Saint's Chapel in Sewanee, TN last weekend, we were enthralled by the gorgeous doors leading into the sanctuary. Built in the 1880's, the workmanship is amazing!
ReplyDeleteYour drawings gild the lily! I too have always loved entrances, brownstones, walls, and fences. Love to go walking at night and seeing just the decor illuminated inside a house. Painting my front porch wicker furniture black .... still thinking about a black door.... hmmm.
ReplyDeleteLove doors and what's inside them!
ReplyDeleteAnd love your drawing Patricia, it's so beautiful and so clear.
I am forever taking pictures of doors! Love them! I live right outside Charleston SC and will sometimes just go downtown to take more pictures of doors!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully talented you are PVE!
ReplyDeleteLove traditional English especially.
Loved the use of the word portal. Much more magical than door. There must be some deep connections we mortals have with portals!
ReplyDeletenamed our daughter after that provence for that very reason.....its just beautiful there.
ReplyDeleteEnjoying this series on doors. Such charming illustrations. Smiles, LC
ReplyDeleteLove your posts on doors :-) They're like the face of the house -the first thing you notice and see!
ReplyDeleteI love your doors! I think that several in frames would make a charming arrangement one of those "little walls" that needs something.
ReplyDeleteOh, always, in Italy, Greece Switzerland! Window and doors!
ReplyDeleteAlways. This illustration is mesmerizing!
ReplyDeleteFascinated indeed...maybe this is why we always have a photo album full of beautiful doors from all our travels!
ReplyDeleteI consider doors to be the voice/mouth of the home, they reveal the soul space. There's a great book called: The Language of Doors by Paulo Vicente and Tom Connor. It's a small book and worthy of adding to your library.
ReplyDeleteBette
hi patricia. oh, i love doors, windows, shutters... the older, the better for me. i'm pretty much obsessed. thanks for another blog introduction. your illustration of pixel is on my blog today. hope you like the post. pam
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of about fifty doors I have photographed during my travels. I love them. I also have a number thing...
ReplyDeleteOur town has a poster of doors frm our community--a mosaic about 6x6 but the doors all together make a incredible composition!
ReplyDeleteLove doors...One of the things that drew us into the shore house (literally!) was the original wood door, never painted, in all its glory.
ReplyDeleteDoors, windows and pathways, all a reminder to stop, see and move forward.
ReplyDeleteI love doors, I love to imagine whats behind them and the type of people that live right on the other side.
ReplyDeleteThese illustrations are so great! how clever of you!
ReplyDeleteA lovely drawing - not only do I love the door but also the iron gate, ivy, etc. Beautifully done, pve.
ReplyDeleteI am going to London this summer and will look forward to seeing wonderful sights.
My own front door is quite large and heavy with an oval cut top and full beveled panes. Very European looking. Totally love it!
I'm TOTALLY fascinated by doors when I travel :-) And doors in general, really.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were in Luxembourg and Belgium a couple of years ago, I saw so many wonderful doors and I just had to take pictures of them. My hubby thought I was weird, but I didn't care!!
I wrote a blog post about doors a few months ago and included the Luxembourg doors. If you'd like to take a look, here's the URL:
