Paths that have been artfully arranged and one's that are flush with plantings as well as flowering baskets reflect the warmth of a home and it's inhabitants. I enjoy illustrating many homes for clients for special gifts to commemorate an anniversary or a special day.
Being a homeowner, I know the amount of tender loving care it can take to keep a home and to nurture all things living inside and out. How do you make an entrance when you walk into a room or up a walkway?
Laura,
ReplyDeleteThank-you. Red doors do have "heart!"
Happy weekend.

I love to look at your sketches for inspiration for the exterior of my own home. I would love a beautiful walkway to the front door. The current state is not so beautiful but my dreams are for a curved slate path with beautiful boxwood, colorful annuals and great lighting.
ReplyDeleteHopefully soon!
Hi Patricia,
ReplyDeleteI love this quote:
“Every exit is an entrance somewhere else”
I am beginning to see that doors, entrances are a big inspiration for your work!?
Have a lovely weekend with your family.

M-
ReplyDeleteI know, I do have a thing for doors and my sister too.
Have you ever seen her work?
Reflected Light- Liz.
She is on my blog roll - and she has been painting up a storm-

Love her work, all those doors remind me of something my Gran told me a long time ago “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls”
ReplyDeleteIf Edward is leading the way, I make a dramatic entrance indeed!
ReplyDeleteLove your roses....and Pixel!!
I have a very sloped front yard and a 6'5" husband. Instead of tying a bungee cord around his waist and dropping him down the hill with the lawnmower, get this: I took out all of the grass and am almost finished with a five year (FIVE YEAR!!!!!) project to tame the slope with stone terracing and flagstone steps. I planted some trees and shrubs this spring, some others to come this fall. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the stone soothes my heart. And, yes, my front door is a dark red. And, yes, I did the work myself. Not bad for a 60 year old woman!
ReplyDeletehome before dark,
ReplyDeletebravo to you and doing it yourself.
hope you will begin a blog and show us all your lovelies. You and your 6'5" mate must make a fabulous entrance and a beautiful one to come back to.

You are so talented...this drawing makes me want to walk down that pretty little path and enter the fabulous red door to see the happy world that exists beyond...
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting to find our next home that will have a grand entrance of beautiful fragrant flowers to greet each and every person that stops by to say hi!
Happy weekend to you!
Laura beat me to it -but the red doors make the best entrance! Love a pretty door!
ReplyDeleteI used to have flowers leading up to my house...I wish they were still there. Im off to find something to put on my porch to make it more inviting....
ReplyDeleteRed doors in Chinese mean good luck! I love the brightness of a red door - so cheery.
ReplyDeleteI love this painting...it's beautiful. Our home (our first!) has a bright red, arched door, and we love it.
ReplyDeleteThat picture is so inviting. I like colorful doors on a classic house - yellow, anyone?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely another "someday house" for my daydreams... I love it.
ReplyDeleteI love the street appeal of the entrance to a home. It really says something about the people who live there.
ReplyDeleteLove it! You know I love a red door.
ReplyDeleteMy entrances are usually a bit clumsy and full of bags. A smile always helps.
This is... eye-widening. My latest post was to be entitled Doorways or Pathways.
ReplyDeleteYour sketch is beautiful, welcoming and then suprising with that splash of red.
I just came in from spending the weekend working in the garden and wanted to mention if anyone wanted an idea for planting a courtyard, or closer to the house tree, they might consider Indian Magic crabapple. Its blooms are like a peony rose, but I think the best part is the berries. Orange at Halloween and Thanskgiving, red by Christmas and through Valentine's Day. Really fun and charming in the winter dullness. And thank you for the compliments. I can't imagine a blog by me would add any newness to the amazing things there already. But thank you for your kind thoughts.
ReplyDeletehome before dark,
ReplyDeleteI felt the same, before I had a blog, and then with the birth of my blog, it took shape, grew with comments, like a plant with water, sun and being part of a bigger planet.
Consider it, and join us, I know you would love it, no matter how little or how much you have to say - each voice is heard collectively.
