in the black

a black door - pve design illustration
A door painted in black is chic anytime of year.
The twin topiaries flanking the door add a touch of elegance to the entry.  A simple laurel leaf wreath adds a winning touch too.  A black door does have the look of being "in the black."
What color door do you consider to be an investment?

  2. This black looks great. Gray is nice, but I'm a fan of the classic red. The problem is my DH likes white. Sigh.

  4. Great questions always follow your beautiful drawings! Does an opaque glass door signify happy transparency?

  5. We had the door painted red/maroon at our old house and I loved. My current home's front doors are mostly glass with wood trim.

  7. I love a black door or red but also deep dark green. Our house in Utah is black farm door (top half opens) I hate it. When we move back it's the first thing I'm changing I want red!

  9. I usually have such stong opinions...oops divulged too much...but when it comes to doors, I kind of like them all. Love the black, the red, the dark green, a deep brown, and mine that is gray.

  11. Black doors are great. I would have loved to get a black door when we replaced our front door this year, but it wouldn't have gone with the house. So we went with a deep, deep red instead.

  12. Doors - once we had a sunny yellow door on a weathered brick home. It was a happy color. We were happy in that home. Now in a different house our door is a dark burgundy color. We still have a happy home. It needs a new coat of paint. I am contemplating using a brick color.

Long ago my sis told me that the color of the door should be reflected in the home when you enter. Upon entry one should again see the color of the door. It can be just an accessory, a painting, a pillow or much bigger such as wall color.

  14. I'm careful about choosing black for front doors with clients.

Depending upon distance, from the street view, some black doors look like a 'void'. As if the door is open and nothing is inside.

Other black doors look fabulous darling.

  15. It either has to be red or black or some deeply beautiful natural wood with a lovely leaded glass window. Lovely artwork!

  19. i love my newly painted glossy black front door to coordinate with our new house colors. i've loved other front door colors also as long as they coordinate with the house colors. i'm dying to paint all my indoor doors black. i've had them black before in my atlanta townhome and it adds so much character.

  20. We have a black door. I also like very dark navy and green as alternatives. Red can be perfect - but not on all houses. My parents had a blue/green door on their Capitol Hill house and another neighbor loved it so much they did the same (same creamy brick paint too).

  21. I love black doors. I tried to talk my husband into putting a color {other than off white} on ours but he doesn't think it will look good on our tudor ~ ugh! So for now I'll just have to enjoy yours.

  23. For a door, depending on the home, it could be black, white or even gently polished to show the grain. The colours I adore are green and blue.
