Another commission for a home front is en route to a client. The purple iris are in bloom and the grass was just freshly cut. The trees were pruned and the shrubs were just trimmed. What makes your home look fresh and adds curb appeal?
My husband makes our yard look like a golf course each week. He really could have been a landscaper. What a joy to ride up to our house at the end of a long day and find a place of refuge.
Since I live in an apartment and have no say about how the front of the house looks, curb appeal to me is making sure the apartment is picked up and a candle is lit so it always smells nice.
I'm afraid not much this year, everthing is coated with construction dust and will be all summer as they do major road construction 25-50 feet away from our house. There is nothing better than doing to spring clean-and-plant, but I guess next year! Boo-hoo. Hope you had a great day.
Another amazing picture of a beautiful house. My ideal is a "Garden Growing Wild" from A Pattern Language "the quality which brings a garden to life - the quality of a wilderness, tamed, still wild, but cultivated enough to be in harmony with the buildings which surround it and the people who move in it."
Not so easy to pull off. I saw that Anne Hathaway`s Cottage employs several full time gardeners to keep it's wild look.
When I let my garden grow wild, it just looks, well, wild.
A Home Sweet Home illustration and beautifully done Patricia. Our lawn is cut every week and with the windowboxes filled and later when the blue hydrangea bloom- we turn on a spot-light to the front door at night. It's simple, but we always feel warm and welcomed as we arrive back home.

Beautiful Patricia! We have a small batch of grass in the front only because of the oak trees it is hard to grow things, a lot of rocks and stones because throughout our yard- easy for me to manage. LOL... Along with some bushes that made it and well some that didn't... Thank goodness for the wooden area we live in otherwise I would be in trouble. Enjoy! xoxo
what a lovely piece of art ~ your client will treasure that! Our yard is an ever evolving landscape, thanks to my husband. Last year he added some of my slumped bottles to our dogwood tree ~ it looks beautiful ~ and is quite the topic of conversation. cheers
There are days when I love the entry to be clean and simple looking. Then there are the days when I love that there are bikes everywhere. I'm sure I'll miss the bikes someday more than the other.

Loved your drawing. You brought the life to light. Our front yard was very sloped, and my husband very tall. I had visions of him mowing the yard with a bungee cord wrapped around his waist. This year, I've finally done it: I have removed all the grass (we all have allergies) and completed the building of terraces and stone walkways. I'm just starting to plant. It will be a fall/winter garden of trees and shrubs. This personal reclaiming of our yard to stone and walkways has taken me 20 (I can't believe that!!) years. I am looking forward to finishing this...and then enjoying it.
I can't wait til we own a home so I can commission one of your lovely illustration. But, for now I'll just take advantage of your talent on my blog "home". XXOO

Your client is going to love this, it is perfect, you can almost tell the lawn was just cut from the vibrancy of the green in your painting!
Being sure everything is weeded (*everything*) without having things overly manicured is the balance we always seek. Sometimes we get there, and others we get. Nowhere. Near.
Lovely illustration! I suppose my house looks a bit special because of all the many hydrangeas, climbing roses and window boxes that surround it. And of course, Edward just might be looking out the window, which definitely adds to the curb appeal!

There is nothing better and more lovely to look at than a manicured lawn and beautiful flowers in bloom. Since my husband travels and we have a big hill in our yard, I have a gardner that mows and trims regularly and I get to tend to the flowers. What a lovely painting Patricia!
Stunning, love what you did! Turning onto our street you immediately see the view that our house has (and so many others on our street). The minute I saw the house from the street, I knew I had to live there. The gardens are also beautiful.
