half note cottage

pve design illustration - "half note cottage"
There is something about a cottage named "half note" that brings music to my ears.  Layla over at The Lettered Cottage has been posting about this sweet little place as it takes on a new look with fresh paint and some tlc.  I remember moving to my home and the sudden urge to make it our own with a good scrubbing, some paint and scouting for items like a bird brings bits to its very own nest.   There is something about a cottage that seems simple and hits just the right note for me.  Are you drawn to half note cottages or full note castles?  What makes your home noteworthy?
* thanks Conni for pointing out my error with its!  I did change it!

  1. I am definately a half-note person. I adore a tiny abode, a doll-house of sorts and little out building. I imagine them as artists studios-full of fresh flowers, brushes, supplies, a small sofa for meeting with clients, light cutains moving with a breeze...need I say more?

  2. I am definately a half note cottage person. Although I admire the castles, for some have unique beauty, my heart belongs to a cottage. There are so many thoughts and feelings that come to mind when I think of a cottage, but the best for me is "comfy cozy" all four seasons.
Our home is noteworthy for the welcome it exudes beginning outside the front door. The inside decor is eclectic, which makes it interesting, but not museum-like. Warmth and interest embrace our humble abode.

  4. hmmm... good question! I think right now, I am drawn to a house that is big & breezy. Modern, with glass, wood & light. One side faces the woods, the other side faces the ocean. If anyone comes looking for me today, that's where I am. (in my dreams!) xoh

  6. I love a little cottage. Quaint. Cozy. Your drawing is beautiful. Our home is noteworthy when it's filled to the brim with people we love, lots of food, and laughter.

  7. I guess I'm in the middle. I love my little cottage but could use one more hidden nook of my very own. I like it's charm and the fact that it's not too big to me overwhelming.

  9. Interesting question....think I'm starting to think a half-note cottage might be more to my liking. Less stuff! The day is coming. Love the drawing and it looks so good on your new background.

  10. I love your illustrations and your blog. I love the quaintest of a cottage. I am really drawn to beach cottages now that I live in Florida. Come on over and visit me.

  11. Small but jewel like is what I told my husband I wanted 35 years ago. I don't have a Hansel & Gretle house, but I am working on a H&G garden! In side our house is filled with memories. It seems everything we have bought or has been given to us has a story to tell. Being a southern girl might be the reason inanimate objects keep talking to me. At least what they say to me amuses me. Love the illustration of half-note: a visual symphony to the half note?

  12. I'd just like a cottage to start with!

I am also an avid watcher of Layla's designs. She brings out the whites in me. I am busy figuring out how to transpire from less woodsy to more whites. If I can't have that cottage, at least I can feel a little bit like I'm in one perhaps..

    Lovely illustration!

  13. I'm a half note gal, but would need a guest house out back to have room for my friends to stay and when there are no visitors it would be my little getaway to draw. I love a home with character. If my love was a handyman I so would have loved to purchase an older home that needed TLC.
    Enjoy! xoxo

  15. Is it wrong to be both? I am probably a half note cottage girl at heart, but feel at home in a castle. I think modesty wins out - but it would have to be a chic half note cottage, a chottage.

  16. I adore a little cottage! But I also want a houseful of babies . . . I'm not sure how to mesh the two desires . . . therein lies the adventure of decorating I suppose!

  19. A castle would be too big, but a cottage might be too small. Do I sound like Goldilocks? I do love the cottage look.

  21. I think I might be a 3/4 note? I love the simple and small, but throw in the modern like Heidi describes and I'm in love. I always prefer a little on the small side. I kind of like "tripping" over my family...it keeps us connected.

  23. Hi, Patricia, I've seen you around on all the design blogs of other friends & came over from Layla's. Very nice to meet you, what a beautiful rendition of that cozy cottage. It's beautiful!

  24. I took the survey at mydeco.com and I was told I'm a "home queen"--make that a queen without a castle! I talked about my results in a post- http://grannysmithgreen.blogspot.com/2008/07/hrh-home-queen.html It was a fun little survey. If you take it, let me know what your results were. I'm curious.

  26. Patricia,
What a beautiful gift you gave to Layla & The Half Note Cottage. I love the question you ask in this post and am happy to say that I have always been a half note kind of girl. My house is still a work in progress but my garden is a "home."
My arbor frames the entrance, my flower beds are where I study and my stone paths take me to many different places. I would love for you to stop by for a visit sometime. I've told my roses all about you!
    Take care,
    Lisa
