One of my most loved and cherished cookbooks is "The Eating in Bed Cookbook" - by Barbara Ninde Byfield, published back in 1962. A dear friend who knows me all too well, gave this wonderful book to me. She told me that the drawings reminded her of me and the witty sense of humor. There are two types of people, those that "love eating in bed"- and those who simply "loathe it."
The cover is a simple blue and white ticking stripe, and the inside is full of incredibly witty and endearing recipes with endless possibilities for eating in bed or other unusual spots. Have you ever given any thought to "Eating in the bathtub" - being served "Turkish Delight" in a Turkish bath? It is after all such a heavenly sticky confection, surely a bath would complement this and avoid wasting any towels. Why one could simply enjoy getting sweet and squeaky clean right in the tub!
Witty, clever sleep inducing recipes with visions of remnants left to be found in bed. Normally sticking to a regime and a hard and fast rule for eating at a certain hour, this cookbook advises wisely to the fact that one can eat in bed at any hour. There are a number or things that cannot be eaten in bed: Baked Alaska being one, based on the problem of getting this delicacy to you at a proper temperature without sacrificing the luxury and unhurried ease which distinguishes successful Eating in Bed from even the finest dining out. Perhaps one day restaurateurs should realize this unique service and accommodate even the most finicky of eaters with mouth-watering delights delivered straight to the comfort of one's bed. Reservations for the corner bed with the canopy, please. Do you enjoy cooking and eating in bed?

Eating in bed--oh, yes! Now eating in the bathtub--well, that's a bit "Cat in the Hat Comes Back" for me. Remember The Cat ate cake in the tub? I want the water up to my shoulders and that complicates things a bit! Now for the bed--hot coffee is the first thing on my list! I can smell it now!
Oh how utterly decadent! A little tidbit in bed can never hurt, really. As Erin calls her "beddie-snack"- she doesn't eat it in bed but Mimi's could do such a thing.....
A luxury wrapped inside a glamorously unassuming book!
I think there is nothing better than staying at a hotel and getting room service to eat in the bed. It's so decadent...
My favorite part of the week is breakfast in bed on saturday mornings! When i'm not having a good day I love to watch a movie in bed while eating dinner too! haha It's my favorite place!
Usually get my tea-and-toast in bed from my DH -- he says that it is the only way I can wake up -- and he is SO right! LOL! And I do love to eat in bed on cold, gray days -- so warm and cozy with the electric under-the-mattress pad set on "ToastyWarmCozy"

What a delightful little book! And yes, I do love eating in bed. But not after doing the cooking as well! I prefer to be served in bed!! We have had the good fortune to stay in a couple of grand inns in the UK that do just that. It's most addictive.
How special! I love that last illustration! It's perfect for a long leisurely lay in!
Eating in bed is an exercise in deep comfort for me. It brings me back to the days when I was a kid and sick. My Mother would bring me chicken soup to my bed. How comforting! If the world has been mean, or I've had a Charlie Brown day, straight to the bed for tea and crackers. It soothes me.
Cool cookbook! I eat in bed only on mothers day, well coffee is another story I can do that everyday.
What a great cookbook. I love to eat in bed. I know some think it's a bad habit, but I love to eat my sunday morning breakfast which we order from the local deli in bed and then flip through the paper. Heaven.
I guess I'm one who loves eating in bed. So I love this cookbook! Ohhhh, your illustration...just perfect!
What a sweet book! The only thing I eat in bed is breakfast, but I do love slipping back into bed with a big mug of tea.
Not so much cooking...but eating desserts specifically in bed is fantastic. I remember a very nice experience with chocolate truffles in bed...
I'l have to track down that cookbook!
That looks like a cookbook worth having. I love the cleverness of putting ticking on it....looks like sheets. There is something so escape like about eating in bed.
I enjoy eating in bed as long as it isn't a hospital bed!
I enjoy eating in bed. Even on rainy afternoons for a picnic.
I love this book and the ticking so neat! I will have to do a little surfing for this one.
This book is perfect for you my friend! I love everything about it!!
Enjoy... xoxo
What a great book.. I love it! I do like to eat in bed...mostly a snack of sorts.. my favorite is tea and toast with cheese and usually I always eat a little bit of chocolate in bed before I go to sleep!

i don't think i've ever eaten in bed unless i was sick. what a shame! this must go on my to-do list and i clearly must slow down. it sounds delightful, so calming, so yummy. and the book is a treat itself. love the ticking cover.
and thank you for the post on perideau. simply lovely.
I love eating in bed! If you are going to work so hard cooking why not rest and enjoy it in bed. Beautiful picture you did also!!
I would enjoy eating in that warm and inviting bed you've drawn! Ahhhh....
Eating in bed somehow reminds me of business travel. Where I would eat in bed out of necessity, many times. Not my most favorite memory. :-)
