in the neighborhood

Mister Rodgers sporting a zip front cardigan "In the neighborhood."

I am in the neighborhood for a zip front sweater to keep me cozy.  Something about a sweater with a zipper reminds me of Mister Rodgers.   Thrift shops here I come.  What are you in the neighborhood for these days, boys and girls?

  2. heidi-
I decided to nix the one I found and am on the hunt for a vintage zip front one. Temp is to drop so thermals sound cozy.

  3. I'm always in the neighborhood for that perfect white shirt. I must have more than a dozen. It's the one thing I feel most comfortable in. But... this time of year I always need to layer them with a heavy bulky sweater. Baby it's cold out there!

  4. Debra,
Yes to a white shirt all year. Frames the face and feels like clean sheets on a beautifully made bed.
Cover it with a cashmere sweater and voila.

  5. I love Mr. Rodgers. I'm on the lookout for a longer length turtleneck. All of mine have shrunk a bit.

  6. I love mr. rogers! He was actually a family friend and I brought him to my 1st grade show and tell (that made me quite popular!). I have a picture of him signed on a shelf in my bathroom with all my family photos -he was a very special man.
His mother made all of those sweaters for him! I have a thing for sweaters myself and I think I have about 10 zip up cardigans -the mr. rogers influence on me I suppose!

  7. Stefan-
Oh my - the things we find out in the blog world!
I would love to see a photo of the two of you!
I just found an old zip front sweater, a leather front, knit sleeves and back which will be great for this week as temps dip.

  8. Turtlenecks, turtlenecks, turtlenecks!

  9. I wear too many turtlenecks, sometimes I feel like Diane Keaton. I'm on the look-out for simple dresses that I can wear when I can't think of what to wear.

  10. Oh, I acually have a zip front sweater, it is cobalt blue. Maybe I'll wear it today in honor of Mr. Rogers! Stefan I can't believe it, you knew Mr. Rogers! Yes, we need some images of you in those zip cardigans.

  11. Forgot to mention I too love white shirts, more in spring and summer here in KC. In the winter I like to layer sweaters.

  15. Hmmm, not really looking for anything particular right now, although I do like cardigans. However, I LOVE Mr. Rogers and was so sad when he died. He had a very special quality to him and I owe my love of piano jazz and the vibes to this multi-talented man. On a trivial note, my cousin used to date "Mr. McPheeley"(Speedy Delivery guy's) son.

  18. I have a signed picture of Mr. R, too - framed and on my bookshelf (quite the conversation piece). But I did not bring him to show and tell. :-) Love that.

I'm in the market for a new coat. Mine's a bit shabby. Went to Macy*s one day sale; almost had panic attack (well...I'm exaggerating. But only slightly. So. Many. Scary. People.)

  22. I love wide-wale corduroy shirts over thin cotton flannel ones. So cozy and warm. I have one that is sage green and another that is dark slate grey.

  24. I really like the half zip sweaters (or a good shawl collar with a leather wrapped button.) Maybe in robin's egg blue.

Mrs. E. is wearing an outstanding cashmere cable knit with a v-neck and a stand up collar today. That, too, frames a neck and face beautifully.

See if you can find a vintage ski sweater. Deliciously warm and great designs!
