pve design - illustration of "gal friday" 2007
So many of us are feeling a little melancholy that the holiday door is closing and eagerly anticipating the fresh slate of a brand New Year. Soon it shall be time for each of us to return to work or back to our routine or daily "grind!" I would love to have a "gal friday" to provide order to my day and checking my list, refilling supplies, paperwork, categorizing artwork, organizing a work flow. If you had a gal friday, what are some of duties or tasks that you would relinquish?
Patricia~ Thank you for your comment- you're the first!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a 'Gal Friday'- my drawing table would always be clear, all of my folders an other paperwork would be in perfect order, she would take care of all of the little jobs associated with this work and I could just draw and paint. Then at the end of the day we would sit with a glass of wine and feel accomplished and satisfied~ ahhhh...
I would have her re-fold the pile of clothes that collect in a 4 ft tall pile every morning at the bottom of the twin's closet ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm like Heidi - folding my laundry and putting it away!
ReplyDeleteI would definately want my "gal Friday" to get me organized!!! Closets, drawers, attic, garage, etc......but I am not sure that is what a GF is supposed to do. Maybe I just need need a DEMOLITION service and START OVER!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteFiling and fielding calls. I could get so much more done. Smiles, LC
ReplyDeletePatricia- this is a post close to my heart. I actually am the gal Friday! This is how my PT job (out of a home office) started. I start getting my employer organized, taking on more and more even into her personal stuff. Now I changed my title to "Jill of all trades". I do anything from load paper in the machine, interview, design etc...
ReplyDeleteIf I lived close by- it would be a pleasure to hop over.
I just mentioned recently to my mom. I think I create a mess in the basement on purpose so I can clean it!
I hired my first gal friday last year. brilliant move! she files, sorts, makes appointments, keeps office supplies refilled and the office organized and does the thing i hate most--going to the post office and shipping stuff, and keeping up with bills and tax stuff. she only comes half a day once a week, but that's a huge help.
ReplyDeleteBill paying of every kind. I loathe paperwork.
ReplyDeleteThats easy - I'd love someone to unpack and organize all the boxes I never got around to in 2008.
ReplyDeleteI would have a Gal Friday go through every closet, cupboard and drawer in my house---advising me on what to toss, how to organize---with the goal being a serene and uncluttered life!
ReplyDeleteI would also like to have Gal Friday assess my wardrobe---and tell me honestly what should go away--forever!
I guess I'm going to have to be my own Gal Friday. I started with the laundry room about a month before Christmas. I was ruthless! It felt good!
Joyce! How would I go about finding someone like you???? And, what is the going rate for your kind of skills?
ReplyDeleteA Gal Friday would be wonderful. I'd have her do mail sorting, laundry (and the put away), grocery shopping and the afternoon drives. These things take so much time out of the day.
ReplyDeletePatricia - love your drawing! My Gal Friday would be in charge of keeping all the cellphones and cameras charged, bill paying and filing, and oh, what the heck - washing dishes, doing laundry and cleaning the litterbox!
ReplyDeleteI would ask her to do my bills and the laundry! I would ask very, very nicely and bake cookies for her too!
ReplyDeleteWhere do I sign up for this "Gal Friday?!?!"
ReplyDeleteI'd love a day of r+r since the other 364 days a year are spent organizing, cleaning, cooking, working and shuffling offspring.
Maybe we can talk Obama into a national "Gal Friday" in lieu of a Columbus day or something.''
P.S. I love this picture today. So fetching.
Patricia-
ReplyDeleteI love this illustration.....this is my favorite of yours so far. I hope you had a lovely Holiday Season.

I would have my gal Friday run errands (drive kids, grocery shop, bank, post office). I would also have her upload photos for me and help me hang my art that is sitting leaning against walls because we have not gotten around to hanging it in our new home.
ReplyDeleteAlthough in reality...if I had an organized, fun, smart gal around the house, we'd probably end up drinking coffee and talking and not get much done at all. Two year olds are not he best conversationalists so I'd talk my gal Fridays ear off.
Good that we could all use a "Gal Friday" for so many tasks that seemingly go undone in the course of a busy life.
ReplyDeleteJoyce - wishing you were a little closer and I would hire you to come and be my "Friday gal!"
Thanks to each of you for your clever comments - yes keeping all these annoying little machines recharge would be a bonus.
Many great ideas!
the first thing i would do is get her a new set of hot magenta pom poms.
ReplyDeletei need a happy , personal cheerleader & motivator (sp).
then maybe i can deal with all the tiny details of life that drive me mad .
Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Mrs. Blandings. I can't see how I could hire the financial work involved in running a household, but it is the most tedious and time consuming thing for me - and requires concentration, so I can't do it with the boys underfoot.
ReplyDeleteOh. organizing for sure, filing these little stacks that seem to pile up, inspiration tear sheets, etc. I do bill pay on line now and it is the greatest time saver. Mrs B. you must try it, it is now very safe.
ReplyDeleteHi Patricia
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the very best for 2009!
I really need a live-in maid more than a Gal Friday.
ReplyDeleteBut, having said that, a car and driver at my beck and call would be bliss.
As HOBAC would say: Now playing: "The Chauffeur" by Duran Duran.
