bibliophile-
one who loves books.
one who loves books.
When asked to illustrate a small little work for a blogger with an avid case of "bibliophilia", I immediately visualized a charming shop which one would ride their bike to, and spend hours perusing the shelves and the stacks of artful companions not only for content but for layout.
I love losing myself in old fashioned bookstores, the ones where the shopkeeper greets you by your first name and fetches the latest hard to find vintage out- of -print publication that you have been on the prowl for. "The Bookworm", painted by Carl Spitzweg, Wikipedia
How many of you have a little shop on your blog and need a store-front? I think I will stay inside and peruse some on-line shoppes, after all, bloggers really do have all the best books and chic finds. Feeling bookish today?

Indeed
Patricia~ Now I'm awake! I adore a small, intimate bookshop. The large ones that we all know and use are great- they certainly have their place. But it's those tiny shops with a sweet lamp on a table and a faded, stuffed chair. A place that you are encouraged to sit and stay. A very slight musty scent from some of the older books.
Ahhh- that's what I would love to own some day! Can you see those "words" on a little shop's walls? Last night I watched part of "You've Got Mail"- and was lost in my little book-shop-keeper's dream for ...someday!
Very nice. I hope the bike rider brought a big backpack to carry all the books! I have a huge collection of antiquarian books that are the keystone of my home. If my house ever caved in the books would hold it up!

Beautiful. It will look great on Ronda's site.
I love books and book stores. I can spend hours just wandering around a store and finding a comfy chair to read a little.
There is just something about holding a book and it's pages and the smell they have. It's a completely different experience than reading something with kindle.
I always have to go to book stores by myself as I love to take my time. It's really a treat to myself. What a darling illustration!
Thank you again Patricia! It's PERFECT!!
Ronda,
Wishing you all the best and scads of stunning books stacked artfully to post about.

Love this post, you are such a great talent! The old bookstore photos, so great!
There is nothing like a cozy little bookshop! Your illustration capture the feeling of wanting to step inside for a visting.
Have a golden weekend! xoxo

i LOVE bookshops! thank goodness we still have a real one in our town.
Great watercolour!
This year in Paris I bought an old book of photos, elevations and plans of Paris hotels at the turn of the century...it has green ribbon ties on all three sides, and a marblized cover...it smells so old! I love it.
Long live the little book store :)
I just wanted to tell you that the first thing I thought was....It's perfect for Ronda's site....the coloring and the styling....perfect. Well done!
Great picture and perfect for Ronda!
I saw this lovely illustration over at All The Best and think it is one of my fav's. And now I have a new "phile" to add to my list ...anglophile, francophile, bibliophile!
Hello My Book Worms! If we could only go on a field trip to that lovely little book shop! So enchanting!
Was just at an antique mall yesterday absorbed in scads of vintage books! Intimate books shops are like a hidden little treasure found on cobble-stone street.
Thanks for sharing!
i just saw a photo of the interior of Shakespeare and Co. Love the painting you posted- there really is something magical about bookshops
Perfect for Ronda! I love it, however all of your illustrations are just so wonderful!
