a reminder to breathe

We were both in a hurry and it was a bad connection.  Darn cell phone.  It was my mistake.  I had asked a reliable source for a nice spot to stay and she said "breathe in" and I thought she said "breeze inn" and that was that.  I booked a very different spot for what we thought would be a nice weekend get-away and instead it was not.

We should have stayed at "here."
When you see the site, it is so inviting and so refreshing too.
If I were an inn keeper, I would have fresh flowers, fruit, the whitest towels and artfully inspired rooms with beautiful art and books.  I would provide spots to relax and healthy cuisine.  It would be just like this one.  I would illustrate my Inn like this one too.

Care to share, what do you do if you arrive and realize that the place is really not commensurate with the web-site.  Do you stay or do you go?
I shall take this as a reminder to slow down and to breathe in.  Next time we will stay at the Breathe Inn.

  1. reminds me of our honeymoon - booked the place based upon an article in Gourmet - we arrived to find the restaurant had burned down and the accommodations were simply terrible - stayed a night and then hightailed it out of there- found something else - a bit of an adventure in the end!

  2. marnie-
glad to hear that I am not the only one who finds the
faulty towers! oh, on your honeymoon....
yes, we were given a room with twin beds, which was
    quickly changed.
we all have adventures and gory stories.
    the good outweigh the bad.

  5. Your virtual Inn sounds heavenly. Let me know when your it's ready, I'll be the first customer.

  6. If the circumstances would allow it (time/money/ability to cancel reservations), I'd go.

I'm sorry to read of your experience. :(

  7. Oh, I'm sorry that happened! I think I would leave. Where I stay is more important to me than what I eat, or what I wear, or what...you get the idea.

If you are near Florida anytime, I'd recommend Elizabeth Pointe Lodge on Amelia Island. It lives up to it's website and then some. It's our favorite beach getaway, and it's also where I feel comfortable to slip away by myself sometimes!

  9. I think I would try to not stress about it and just make do; I'm never one to send back a meal or complain about such things, unfortunately! However, if it was like 'bates motel' or something I would definitely leave! I hope your experience wasn't on that low of a level though!

  10. Ohhhh...That sounds like a bad weekend. But breathe inn looks lovely. TOTALLY my kind of place and I have to see where in the Catskills (I've never heard of this town). Your inn would be delightful and artsy and full of life. I think you should call it Exhale. ;-)

  12. I agree that where I stay is very important to me, decor and all. Many websites can be deceiving, so I've learned to do LOTS of research before booking - checking and cross-checking as many references as I can find. And I tend to give more credibility to professional reviewers than to sites where people write their own reviews.

  13. Definitely go if it at all possible. This happened to us last year in Arizona - the hotel was sooooo not what we thought. we ended up in a fabulous hotel and enjoyed the stay so much.

  14. If the inn were my destination, I'd leave. But if the town/city were my destination with the inn as only my sleeping accomodations, I'd consider staying--as long as it was clean and safe!
