Muffling the summer heat

Spotting mufflers worn on one of the hottest days of Summer in NY City, I decided to draw this chic gal, sporting a simple shift, a gladiator sandal, slouchy summer bag, tunes and a "muffler." Could it be that the shops, offices all blast the cool air conditioning which requires for a scarf to provide a bit of warmth or could it be a sort of solidarity scarf to bring peace.  Wishing each of you a peaceful weekend.  Off to find a stylish "muffler" to bring a cool calm to my inner zen.

  1. Such a sweet drawing! Yeah, I think that's it...the A/C. I usually keep a sweater at my desk.

  2. This drawing is perfect, and really captures the mood of a nyc sidewalk-goer on a steamy August day - damn urban heat island effect!!

  3. Love this one in particular. You really capture her posture. I can relate to the muffler - I'm always freezing in air conditioning.
Love the post of your 3 flavors - sweet photos.

  4. Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for all of the lovely comments. Wonderful artwork you create!

This image reminded me that yesterday in the airport there was a young woman wearing jeans, a T-shirt and a "muffler". At the time I though it was sort of funny, being in HOT Texas and all, but then again, I was absolutely FREEZING while waiting to board my plane. Have a happy day!

  5. My office is certainly cold enough to break out the winter gear - but to wear it on the streets is a bit much. Evidently "summer scarves" are a trend now. Go figure.

  6. Having just returned from the theatre and freezing and huddling next to anything warm, I was so wishing that I had a blanket, a muffler or an afgan! brrrr-
Scouting for one of those gauzy scarves from Calypso!
Thanks to each of you for your comments!

  8. I absolutely adore this drawing!!! I LOVE HER! And, yes, I've been known to wear a lightweight cotton scarf during the summer months. I run in between offices all day long and the A/C is set to "Arctic Blast" in pretty much every Houston building. I'm usually taking it on and off about 10 times a day...meaning I don't look nearly as put together is that pretty darling in the sketch.

  9. I adore this painting. Being a huge fan of mufflers I do like this look very much... I think the trend is from a company called "Love Quotes"...long light linen scarves. I just think I'd end up ripping it off violently in this hideous heat! Maybe in autumn.

just goes to show that I have to trust my intuition more and "put it out there!" I have always loved Bill and have an old photo he took of me... years ago in the city, wearing a "nautical jacket!"

  13. Funny you posted with this fabulous illustration today because it's one thing I noticed a lot while in New York! I loved the look, but scratched my head in wonder. "How could they need a scarf, it's 97 degrees out here," I pondered.

But, you're so right, it can easily cut the chill when hopping into a freezing cold store or office building. I continue to learn more and more about fashion...thanks!
